You will not have to modify your templates at all for them to keep working in 2.0. This is something we were adamant about from the beginning.
I like to hear this.

Not to be redundant, but it can’t be said enough: kudos to you guys for taking the responsible road and not putting the product out prematurely. I’m as anxious as anyone else to get my hands on 2.0, but not so anxious that I want something that’s not yet polished. I can tell from some of the developer blog posts that you are really striving for perfection; I say keep it up. We can be patient.

Good to get some news from the horses mouth. Software, by its nature, is difficult to estimate as far as timelines go. How many unforeseen ideas, problems and hurdles is impossible to predict. Take the time you need… I would rather get it late and great.

I just want to say what has probably already been said before but I will say it again 😉 thanks to the team for making such a fantastic product in the first place. I simply love the 1.6.x branch of ExpressionEngine and I reckon it will power all the sites we have going at the moment for a much longer time yet. The security in the system is fantastic and feature set equally impressive.
I can definitely wait as long as it takes for the new version to come out as the existing version I would say I probably only use around 50% of its features even now!!
That means that there is still an awful lot of life left in the system as far as I can see.
Also please please please please please let’s not have any more sites such as http://www.fallisover.com and just let the team get on with their work 😉 The more time they have to code and not have to worry about answering the same questions in and out about when will the new version be out then the sooner it will be finished.
Of course any information they (the team) can give us whenever they have a free moment is more than appreciated.
Keep up the fantastic work guys, it will be worth it and I’m sure that whatever you throw at us when you have finished will blow away all our expectations.
Best wishes,
Mark

Havent read all posts here so i pull my opinion out now. I dont need any good “feels” or “nice CP-template layout” things. I wait for new/better features, functionally points and so on. I’m not interested about the graphical CP showdown.
I wait for certain things come alive what are written into FR-forums.
Good “all around” features, better working forum, better search, better wiki to handle as admin, clear structure to user-guide. That kind of a things I’m waiting.
These are only my hopes  :red:

Just wanted to toss in that I’ve waited this long so I can wait a little longer. Anything that adds a little more polish and a few more squished bugs is worth the wait.
As always I’m willing to lend my site to a beta test if you guys decide to have one.

Thanks for the info Rick. I had got myself calmed down since spring but now seeing how good Veerle’s backend looks I have got all excited about EE2 again! (fnar.)

Sorry but I had to take this quote out of context since it was just too good to be true.
On a related note, thanks for the honesty about the delay.

Thanks for the update…
Looks like you’ve been bitten by the Pareto bug 😉
I was sorta delaying dev of a site too, so the update is definitely useful.
I can’t wait to see how much of CI will be available in EE. If we can pretty much utilize EE as the ultimate CRUD interface for a CI MVC based front end, then my job has just gotten way easier and way more fun! 😊

Thanks for the update - I was getting antsy like everyone else.
Have you guys thought about/do you have any information on the cost of migrating from 1.6.x to 2.0? I have a number of client sites running on EE and would love to upgrade them - the screenshots alone convince me that upgrading is a must.

I’m late to this thread (been on vacation 😊 ), but just wanted to say I don’t mind a bit if EE 2.0 isn’t ready until the fall. I know the crew wants it to be the best it can be right out of the chute, and so do I.
So no problem. I know it’ll be great. And, heck, looking forward to it is half the fun!

Am pleased to hear that templates for 1.6 do not need to be updated to work with 2.0 - this was my main concern.
#73 / Sep 12, 2008 11:31am
I’m late to this non-party, too. It is as it is and that’s it 😉

I’m so glad to hear an update. I was getting very anxious. Like others I rather know it will be delayed than not know anything. I can’t wait to see this great app.
Thank you

I see that everybody is happy with the delay, good for them.
