Can you do a model website?

I was thinking on how to wrap my head around creating a model website in EE. I think I have a pretty much a good idea on how to approach it. Here is where I am confused on how to do this. There will be of course a men and women section which would just be a category with a sub category or men and women. Now, I would display thumbnails of the models on the men and women page, then when they click on a thumbnail it takes them to that models detail page. So, my question is there would be more multiple thumbnails of just that specific model that a user would click on and it would open up in a pop-up(lightbox) style image. Plus there would be specs of the model along with the thumbnails. This is the page I can’t wrap my head around.

Is this possible, am I just nothing thinking creatively enough?

So, my question is there would be more multiple thumbnails of just that specific model that a user would click on and it would open up in a pop-up(lightbox) style image.

Just to be clear, would this be on the model “details” page?  For example, on your male models category page, you have eight models - each with one clickable thumbnail.  Once you click-through to an individual model’s “details” page, then there are several thumbnails displayed - each with the “lightbox” effect?

You can definitely do this, and there are a few different approaches to it.  One way would be to have an “images” weblog where you would set up a relationship between each model and their associated image(s).  Then, in your template, you’d just have a reverse_related_entries call to the images and you’d display them however you wanted.

You could probably also simply upload several images with each of your model entries.  I’ve not done this, so I can’t vouch for how well it works, but there are certainly threads advocating both methods here on the forums.

Regardless of which route you take, there is an excellent image resizing plugin (lumis’) available that might make life a bit easier for you.

Regarding the “lightbox” effect, there are plenty of JavaScript libraries that can help you accomplish this.  I’ve used jQuery and YUI in the past to do this.  If you’re going to use jQuery (or Prototype, Scriptaculous, MooTools or dojo) check this out, as it might speed up your page serving.  And if you decide to use YUI, you can serve that library from Yahoo, which should help with speed a little, too.

    Good luck!

I just want to do it the easiest way for the client.

Yes, on the details page you will have thumbnails of that model, plus there specs. Height, etc etc.
