    I think you can only have a ballpark in your head and everything has its own business cases that put different times on jobs.
    Just look to break the job up into parts and offer the later or extra parts as costs the client can consider to give them some control on the budget

    I know that I make x per hour I work on my personal sites (each post makes z amount of money). So I multiply that times the number of hours I think it will take to complete, and then add 75% on top. If they push, I’ll go down to 50% but no lower. Below that threshold, I’m better off investing my time into my own projects.

    That rate-calculator is very good. It puts some costs on the list that you might have otherwise easily forgotten to take into account. On another note i just was speaking to a small-town design-firm who have hired some programmers from the big city. These programmers where astounded at how low the rates for the small-town firm where and the relative high quality compared to the big players in the big towns. Also cost of living is most of the times less in these small villages. Pay attention that as a freelancer you have to pay your own pension / healthcare / insurance and income tax. So for that (in Europe) you quickly have to add another 50% to your rates.
