I am putting together a quote for a client who has a request that the members of the site be taken periodically from an access database, I am sure they can export this information in a dlimited file but would like to know how flexible the member import is with regards to:

    Assigning usernames and passwords

putting them in the correct member group

Overwriting existing members (I am not sure if their export will be all members or just new ones?)

    Mnay Thanks

Here are the docs on the member import utility.  It is only for adding, not for overwriting; overwriting would need to be a very carefully built and tested utility, and would be something you’d have to code up. =)

That said, you can overwrite existing members, by providing an exising <member_id> in your XML file. You can read up on it here. A word of warning: There is no undo for importing members. If you make a mistake or there is an error in your data, there is no simple method to correct it. Always backup your database before using this utility!
