Hello I have a sort of “can this be done?” question.

    Here is what I need:

I need to be able to give the admin the ability to upload files onto the server into a specific category.  Then for logged in users, there will be a page where they will see all the documents ordered by category.

Do I just create a page that is accessible by the super admin with a form to upload new documents and manage existing ones?  Or is there something that already exists that would allow me to do this in the Control Panel.

    Thanks

There is not really an ability to upload files into categories per say although you can create a categorized entry with that file attached. This, will not influence the access to file upload folder.
However, you can create a File Upload location by:

    CP Home›Admin›Weblog Administration›File Upload Preferences

and then name it the same as your category. Remember, also that file uploads are accessible from any page (weblog) it is the member groups that control the access to upload location…in other words you do not necessarily need to create an additional page to control access.
    All the best!

Thanks for the reply.  I found a File Manager Module at http://loweblog.com/freelance/article/ee-file-manager-module/.

It works fine for what I need on the backend.  Now is there a EE specific way to display the files in the new folders?  I can do it with php but wanted to know if EE already had built in tags for something like that.

    Thanks
