    Hey guys,

Just learnt a huge lesson…the very hard way….I lost an entire website as I didn’t make an sql backup file and the STUPID hosting company say they don’t make backups - if you can believe that!

Anyway, manage to re-build 2 weeks worth of work in 1 day - no sleep for me 😉  Anyone….how do I make a backup of my .sql without directly accessing the db i.e. I’m guessing some sort of php script I can write?

So nervous to go to bed until I have backed it up !

No need to reinvent the wheel, really, there are a number of good solutions; phpMyAdmin can do this, of course, as can most other mySQL interface programs (including the standard tools that ship with it) but my personal favorite is mysqldumper.

Thanks..I’ll have at look at that.  The hosting company have phpmyadmin as part of the Cpanel but it always crashes just after you select a database - this company really are rubbish - I think I make all my client hosting with me from now on!

cPanel itself will also do database backups very easily. Find the “Backups” button on the cPanel front page. If your front page is subdivided into categories of buttons, look under “Files”. (It depends on which cPanel theme you are using.)

i use SQLyog from the desktop… Assuming your host permits remote access to the MySQL database. It has loads of function and i find it superb…

Note the community edition is free, but the enterpise one costs… So unless you are running it commercially you should be okay on community. If you are commercial, you can afford the login!!!
