    Last week we told you about the first hands on EE Training from Train-ee.com’s Michael Boyink. Today we are pleased to announce that two Scholarships are available for this ExpressionEngine Session. If you want to go to the Session but your budget is tight, this is your opportunity.

    We’ve setup a Scholarship page with all the details, including what the Scholarship covers and how to apply.

    What Leslie modestly left out of the announcement is that EllisLab is also a sponsor - so my thanks to you guys as well.

    Leslie used the word “humbling” which was exactly my feeling as the sponsorship slots were taken up so quickly.

    Having a bunch of people wanting to jump onboard and not only support this idea I had but also pay the way for a couple of newcomers to the EE community to learn about EE is just amazing.

    I never thought I’d have to “thank the sponsors” - but I’m happy and honored to do just that.  Thanks to all of you!

    I’m really looking forward to hosting some folks here in my hometown and talking for 4 days about EE - what could be better? 😉

    How do we go about applying to be a sponsor? 😊

    The initial opportunity was given to the Pro Net and a couple folks (HelpSpot and Gear Live) who have close ties to us already. Next time we attempt something like this we may expand beyond that, but for this particular one that was it.

    Taking the show on the road?

    I have a couch you can sleep on. 😊

    This does look like a cool thing, and I did the whole mapquest driving directions thing to see that you’re about 4 hours past any kind of trip I’m willing to make. At least for now.

    And no, I’m not serious about touring, but you can still sleep on my couch if you want to.

    That’s definitely a great idea.

    Just let me get through the first one…;)

    The one really nice thing (for me anyway) is that having the first one here drastically reduces the number of variables that inevitably come up with this kind of event.  Being at home gives me a great network and extra firepower in dealing with those variables and lets me focus on putting together and delivering a quality class.

    But next time - who knows?  😉

    Just FYI -

    I’ll be extending the Early Bird pricing for those who enter the scholarship drawing, don’t win, and still want to attend.  I’ll have a coupon code that will be good through 5 PM, August 31st.

    Hello,

    I sent in an email application for the scholarship but did no receive any sort of confirmation that it was received.  Are you guys sending out confirmations when receiving new email applications?

    thanks…

    Hi Analog,

    We are not sending out individual confirmations. After it closes I will email all the applicants and post on the weblog. If someone applied but isn’t notified tomorrow, they can contact us to work it out.

    I can confirm that we received yours. 😊

    Hey, I just received the email notification about the scholarships.  I didn’t win… argh!  However, I’m dying to read the winning entries.  Can we post ‘em up?

    I thought about it, but most of the applications contain personal details about the person that they may not want shared with, say, thousands of people in a public venue. When we asked for applications we did not state that EllisLab would be owners of the essays and therefore, we aren’t, so its not really up to us.

    The actual decision process was made as “blindly” as possible to avoid bias. This means each Scholarship Application had its name removed and was given a number before review. The Staff and Sponsors voted to determine the winners. Ryan Battles was selected by the Sponsors and Tony Geer by EllisLab and EngineHosting.

    Sounds like a very fair process and congrats to the winners!

    Now… Tony and/or Ryan… care to post your essays?

    To get the ball rolling… here was my LOSING entry.

    Considering all the ways my life will change by attending this class is a painful exercise. Painful? Yes. I’m a realist and don’t like to sugarcoat life with fanciful, fluffy ideals that only exist in children’s movies. Let’s get real people!

    Yes, I’ll make new friends… but is this a ‘good’ thing. Those new ‘friends’ will probably want to drop by the bar after session to talk EE. Those conversations will reveal I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree - not exactly an ego booster.  All this while contributing to a belly that has long forgotten what a six pack should look like. It’s now a keg!

    When the sessions ended and I returned home, marital hardships would begin. My wife wouldn’t care about my new friends and insights but rather my increased midsection.

    Applying the newly attained skills would expand work load thus requiring price increases. This would mean more trips to the bank and eventually demand the use of numerous banks as each one only insures up to $100,000.  As banking became overly complicated, I would hire a CPA to handle all the monies. The CPA would recommend I get off-shore accounts in the Cayman Islands where one can take advantage of numerous tax loopholes. Maintaining these accounts would call for flights to the Caribbean on a regular basis.

    In conclusion, I would suffer…

      * Increased Marital Strife
      * Greater Work Load
      * The Need to Manage Multiple Bank Accounts
      * The Need for a CPA
      * Burned Up Time Traveling
      * Lower Self-Esteem

    How can you people live with yourselves pulling innocent victims into this abhorrent stratagem under the guise of training? You should be ashamed of yourselves!

    Congrats to Ryan and Tony!  I look forward to meeting you and showing you around Holland.

    If you entered, didn’t win, and still want to come—get ahold of me and I’ll get you the coupon code that will get you early bird pricing through the end of the month.

    As we stand right now roughly half the available seats have been spoken for.
