    Another general question for people who run multiple EE web sites.

    When you are designing your web site for your client, do you give them access to the control panel or do you build a SAEF (stand alone entry form) for them to post to their site?

    I ask because I am getting ready to move quite a few web sites over to EE and I would like to know the general consensus behind what method of access I should give clients.

    *** Sorry, it’s late… my poll was supposed to say Stand ALONE Entry Form!

    Moderator’s note: It does now…

    It depends. Generally there is at least one local Superuser who will have access to all of EE, including the CP, but day-to-day operations are often handled via an SAEF. It all depends on the client’s needs, how tech-savvy they are, etc. No hard and fast rule, really.

    I agree, I have some very non-tech-savvy clients…. For instance I once had to explain how to send an email… NIGHTMARE!

    I create doc videos so if they don’t get it, I charge them to do it until they learn.

    Surprising how quickly that happens.

    To be honest, I don’t see how less complicated it can be to log in and fill in some custom forms on the control panel and login to a website and do it.

    We generally ask the client for a list of people who will be managing the website and create accounts for those people, dividing them into member groups based on needed permissions. We usually customize each members CP, removing all unneeded items and creating custom tabs to easily access needed items (like Freeform, Pages, etc).

    would anyone beable to explain this to me? I am faced with a similar situation, I don’t want to give access to my CP to all my users but, I’d like for people to beable to add things, how could I do that without giving CP Access

    Don’t have a site live yet but we’re planning on (and are doing on our dev install) the same thing.

    The list of people who need access is a great idea. One of the sites I have is a non-profit organization and they change members every year. So retraining is a pain. You think that they would train each other but it never happens.

    @Ryan,

    Forgot to ask in the last post. Any tips on customizing the control panel and are you talking about appearance or just that tabs they can access using the built in admin?

    My clients usually have no need to modify anything serious, but I feel as though they understand the setup more if they can actually use the CP (well at least the locked up ones their accounts has access to).
