Don’t you just hate when clients say they want ‘full control’ over their navigation?

Where it becomes a bit more difficult is if you’re actually doing the development work for another design agency who has sold the client on the basis that they can have full control of their navigation.

Sure it’s a 5-minute job for someone with full CP control to create a new weblog and have it copy the preferences and template of a pre-existing one and then add a line to the template that holds the main nav, but it’s still not the same as the client having full control which they can get with other CMSs (ModX springs to mind where the client can create as many pages as they like and place them where they want and simply tick a box for whether it should be shown in the main nav or not).

I’m in that SAME EXACT position, Tyssen. I’m wracking my brain for a logical solution that will satisfy the promises they’ve made. Not only that, but they believe they SHOULD have full control and say i should switch CMS’s if need be to make that promise. To further complicate things, their primary nav items may or may not have subpages, so the master link needs to be a page, as well as have the ability to switch templates and show a secondary nav when there is one. *sigh*

I for one won’t be around in this company if I have to use Drupal. I’m working off Michael’s example on Train-ee, but it’s just not quite where it needs to be. If i figure out a way, I’ll be sure to share it.

Perhaps using categories as a way of building the list for a dynamic navigation would work?  😉 Categories can have parent child relationships so ...

Michael’s approach D for 3-tiered navigation isn’t really a true 3 tier, which is stumping me on how to get that third level in there. You start with index (which would be home) and then you have the rest of your pages and their sub pages. In the code it’s 3 levels, but on the front end it’s 2. First Level > Sublevel. What do i do when i want this for example: Programs > Therapy > Therapy FAQs ?
