Any benefits of having a dedicated comment page versus embedding it onto a weblog entry page?

This isn’t any problem I’m dealing with, but rather just wondering what were the added benefits of having comments have their own pages (a dedicate template or something) versus just having the comment tags straight into a weblog entry template?

I see a lot of documentation and forum members post about having them separate so was just wondering why. If it’s just for the sake of being tidy and keeping architecture in line with the rest of the site, I fully understand and apologize for this post. Otherwise, please elaborate as I’m constantly looking to learn new and better mechanics/techniques.

I don’t think there is an inherent reason for doing so. I generally include them on my single entry template, or use my comment template for that purpose. Back in the day when Ellislab.com was Rick’s personal blog and playground, he ran his whole blog off one single template.

So, it all boils down to matter of personal preference, I suppose.

Thanks for the reply Ingmar. I thought it was something about SEO I might have been missing or something.. Couldn’t quite figure it out. I suppose I answered the question myself, but it was good to get some clarity from someone with authority in here. 😊

Thanks again for your as-always quick replies.

You’re welcome. If you do get a chance, check out Ricks template. Really was an eye-opener to me back then. Obviously it’s kinda advanced, and you don’t need to (or should) copy it in its entirety, but some of the concepts sure were useful in my future development.
