hi, I’m about to start coverting my static web site to a blog-based one built in EE. It’s my first time with EE, in fact it’s my first time with setting up a blog at all. The learning curve doesn’t daunt me but, not having an existing blog to migrate, I have no data as yet, so nothing to populate the site with. This might make things awkward in the design/development phase, so I was wondering if anybody knew of a source of ‘dummy’ database content for temporary use during site development? Conceivably this might take the form of a MySQL export/dump ready to be imported into a local development database. Anybody know of such a service/resource? Sorry if I’m asking seriouly dumb questions - like I say, I’m new to this dynamic stuff. Many thanks, Rick.

Have a look at this plugin for generating “lorem ipsum” text.  It may be what you are looking for.

Thanks for that Joe. Being a complete EE novice I guess I’m not going to really know whether that will do it for me until I get started (the syntax examples don’t really explain it to me… yet), but it looks like a useful bit of kit to know about in any case.

ExpressionEngine is a very powerful tool but there is a bit of a learning curve to climb when getting started.  It can be a bit daunting.

Obviously, this is a great place to come to get questions answered - both the support staff and the community are extremely helpful.  If you would like a little more help, however, there are two fabulous resources I would like to recommend.

1) Michael Boyink’s Train-ee site.
2) Ryan Irelan’s screencast series.

Thanks again Joe. Yup, I already had the Ryan Irelan site bookmarked, but the Michael Boyink one is a worthy addition. I’ll check ‘em both out properly soon. This first EE project should get started in the next few weeks (it’s my own site, so keeps getting pushed back behind RealWork) and then I’ll see how I get on. Don’t fret, a bit of a learning curve doesn’t faze me—though help from as many quarters as I can find will always be welcome, and no doubt I’ll be living in these forums then.
