Recently we just loaded Expression engine on a Windows 2003 Server using IIS version 6.0.  We have PHP loaded and activated on the site with Expression Engine.  When we attempt to run the install.php file, everything goes fine until install5?php.  This page gives us the Expression Engine banner and a blue background.  Nothing else happens.  When we try to run index.php after the attempted install, all we get is the installation wizard again.  Can someone tell us how to fix this problem?

    Thank you.

Sounds like it may be database related.  Can you run the server wizard real quick- let me know if it gives any compatibility warnings or has any trouble connecting to the db.

We have installed ExpressionEngine and worked through most of the bugs.  We were able to get the control panel to work on our first site.  However, when we run the server wizard, the following items come up unsupported.

. URL Segment Support - UNSUPPORTED.
. CAPTCHAs feature and watermarking in Image Gallery - UNSUPPORTED.
. GIF Image Resizing Using GD (or GD 2) - UNSUPPORTED.
. JPEG Image Resizing Using GD (or GD 2) - UNSUPPORTED.
. PNG Image Resizing Using GD (or GD 2) - UNSUPPORTED.
. Built in Spellchecker - UNSUPPORTED.

Can anyone at ExpressionEngine tell me how to get these modules installed and working on a Windows 2003 Server so they show as supported rather than unsupported?  Are all these options included with the core download of ExpressionEngine?

My last question is about licensing of the product.  After your 1 year license has expired, does this mean you can’t use the product without renewing or does it only mean you won’t get anymore free updates for ExpressionEngine?

As for my previous posting, I have gotten MySQL to work with PHP on my Windows 2003 Server.  It was very easy but ExpressionEngine should give windows users more directions on how to do this.

    Hi, Andy,

You’ll need to get the GD or GD 2 PHP libraries installed (preferably GD2, it’s quite a bit better).  Fixing that will fix 4 of those items.

For the Spellchecker, you need either the PSPELL libraries installed and/or the ability for ExpressionEngine to make outbound connections to Google to use Google’s Spellchecking.

For URL Segment Support, see this kb entry

It will never be part of our offering to give instructions on setting up your hosting environment, and we highly recommend going with a reliable hosting provider rather than doing this in host, so that you have an expert administrator knowledgeable in setting up web servers to handle dynamic, database-driven software.  We are very clear on the requirements that you need, and it is up to you to make sure that the environment is up to spec.  There are thousands of variations on server environments and it is simply beyond what we can feasibly offer to help set up.

Thanks for your help Lisa.  It is greatly appreciated!  I have managed to get all but the URL Segment Support to work on my Windows Server.  When I run the server wizard to check compatability, I get a green check mark on all of the options except URL Segment Support.  Any ideas how I can fix this last and final problem so the wizard reports URL Segment Support as supported instead of unsupported?  I tired the what you mentioned but I think I am not doing something right any other ideas for me on this one?

Is URL Segment Support a PHP extra?  If so do we know which .DLL controls this function?

Can you answer my previous question about licensing?

    Thanks Again!
    Have a great day.
    😊

Most windows servers I’ve seen don’t support URL Segments.  All of the information regarding that is in the KB entry, and you’ll need your server to support path_info.

See this kb entry regarding renewals. =)
