I have just created a new template group and added content into the default index page. Now this page appears in the demo version of the site: http://graham.pmhclients.com/index.php/characterbuilding/

However, it does not appear on the live site: http://www.graham.co.uk/characterbuilding/

What am I not doing correctly? I assumed that the live site would update accordingly. I have not added any new pages to the site since it went live some months ago, but as afar as I remember I did not have to do anything except wait for the pages to propagate.

Any clues would be very helpful.

    Cheers

You forgot to include index.php into the second url 😊

Thanks for your reply, but I installed a script a few months back that removed the need for index.php in the url. None of the other pages in the site require it, for example: http://www.graham.co.uk/who/

I am confused as to why this new page should be any different.

    Cheers

Then I assume it’s a problem with the script that removes index.php
Also check your server logs, if you have access to them.
Maybe there’s something with your url_rewrite module or .htaccess file
I don’t think gettin 404 at this point is an EE issue

spen, we don’t provide direct support for .htaccess, but since you’ve not posted what is in your .htaccess file, it’s hard to diagnose your problem.

Where would I find the server logs and what would be the benefit of checking them?

Contact EngineHosting for that information. But I suspect your .htaccess is the problem.

I do remember using an .htaccess file but I cannot now find it on the server.

It should be in the root folder, right?

I remember adding the directory permissions, but where on earth has the file gone?? Very strange…

    That’s where it should be..

Right, I have managed to retrace my steps from a few months ago and remember creating an automatic .htaccess file form the instruction here:  Remove index.php from urls

I ran the script again as instructed in a blank template and got this output:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond $1 ^(member|projects|careers|news|homepage|sustainability|who|contact|thumbnails|characterbuilding|P[0-9]{2,8}) [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L]

So, I reckon a little bit more patience is in order for this to work?

    Thanks.

So did you place this code in an .htaccess file and try to get to your site again?

I have tried to upload a text document and rename it to .htaccess, but the original file is not visible, and I can’t rename it locally.

Any suggestions how I can delete the original?

I would definitely go along with Sue on this one. If you go to :

    http://www.graham.co.uk/index.php/characterbuilding/

you can see that page does indeed work.

You may need a different method of removing the index.php file on your server as there are a couple of ways of doing this, it may be that the one you are using doesn’t work correctly on your server.

Hope you get this working soon.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

What are you using to view your ftp server with. Most FTP programmes should have an option in their preferences to show hidden files, sometimes called - Send LIST -a.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Mark

Thanks for your reply. I am using Transmit on the Mac. I will have a look.
