Image Caching Query

    Hi guys and girls,

I have an issue with image caching. Basically, no matter what I do, I cannot clear the image cache, and have to wait for up to 2 hours or more for it to start displaying an updated image, even if I remove the image completely it stays there for ages.

Ive disabled all my template caching. Ive cleared the cache through the admin panel, and checked the physical cache folder to make sure its empty. Ive cleared browser caching and tried different browsers.

Eventually after a few hours it does reflect the changes, but its driving me nuts while I try and tweak my templates during the design stage.

Am I missing something? Is there a setting somewhere that I should change? The site is live btw.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

Perhaps your ISP is doing some caching, or some local server in the network? Clearing EE’s cache manually should be sufficient, normally.

I have a VPS server with root access, any thoughts what parameters I could/should be looking for?

I was more thinking along the lines of client-side caching. Say, a squid proxy in your local network. But I am only guessing here, of course.

I’ve spent some time searching and nothing stands out yet…

Can you install EE quickly on another server, see if you get the same issues? My guess is still local caching of some sort (browser, or network level).

I’d be leaning toward client side as well.  If you clear browser cache- of if using FF turn off caching- are the images flipping out correctly?  (May not be browser- but worth a check.)

No idea… Even if I delete the image, then clear all the cache in both EE and browser, the image stays there… it’s not crucial, it just makes it hard to view quick tweaks and changes…

Another idea is to use a different browser to see if that makes a difference.

As stated in the OP, I’ve tried several browsers, IE7, FF3, Flock2.0, but I am determined to figure it out.

Sorry for not seeing that. What happens if you have someone outside of your area test? That way you can rule out IP image caching.

No success. I tried it on a couple of different computers with the same issue. I think its either my server caching the images… or something to do with EE caching.. Ill contact my server tech support and see if they have any ideas…

I don’t see how it’s likely to be EE related- as EE’s pretty much just linking to the images.

Oh- that’s a quick way to test.  Just make a regular HTML page- could even copy an existing rendered page.  Put it up- change an image.  See if it flips out on the html page.

About the only way I can see EE involved is if it’s something in a header saying nothing updaated- but even then, I THINK images are handled separately.  Can’t swear on that, though.

But the html test might give us a hint.
