We are having a bit of a hard time lately getting clients to be ok with EE not having WYSIWYG functionality. Most clients that we’re convincing to go to EE have had blogs and are accustomed to working in that kind of environment. Wordpress, Blogger, MT, they all have WYSIWYG functionality. This is mostly an issue for image placement, not as much “bold” and “italics”.
I know there is a TinyMCE extension, but I’ve tried that when it appears to only been good for simple things like bold… but that’s not where the issue lies.
Perhaps I’m not entirely clear on the extension and what it can do, but does anyone have any suggestions on this? Or will EE be providing a solution for this in 2.0? I know developers all want to punch someone in the face when they hear WYSIWYG, but this is what clients want and we’re having trouble accomodating them with EE. We’ve had people opt for other platforms because of it and/or clients had words after the fact when they go to post to their blog and find it’s not beginner-level.
What do other folks do in this situation? The TinyMCE extension? Is there any hope the publish screens will work like Wordpress in terms of entry publishing in the future? I realize there are reasons that the fields aren’t set up this way, to allow for optimum flexibility, but perhaps a way to turn ON the WYSIWYG functionality by field so new users don’t feel so lost when coming from other platforms?
Thanks!
Joelle
