I disliked FF 2 so much that I switched back to Safari. But with FF3 they are doing a lot of things right. Its much, much, much faster than 2 was and the interface has received a nice overhaul. I’m looking forward to giving it a shot as my primary browser again.

Sorry to say that I will be sticking with Safari myself. Whilst I do use Firefox when designing sites and I use the Firebug extension a little, Safari to me is just a much better browser.

I’m signed up with Apple and downloaded the latest version of Safari (4 Developer Preview) and this thing is totally solid!! As far as I know it’s the only browser so far to score 100 on the Acid3 test - http://acid3.acidtests.org/.

There are also a few neat additions to Safari now which are really nice to have in there too. I will download FF3 but only really to test it out, hopefully it works with the existing extensions?

Also where will people download it from? Seems as though the http://www.getfirefox.com/ site is down at the moment?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Wonder if they were smart to do this.  The FireFox sites are totally crashing.

Safari is dope if you have a Mac-Daddy Mac.  Safari for Win is good, but a bit buggy.

Even if you decide to stick to Safari, you should use Firefox for testing all your sites… now that about 20% of Internet surfers use it as their main browser… if only to make sure your sites work well for it.

I have tried Safari… but Apple turned me off with their unethical scheme to get people to download Safari while doing updates to quicktime and iTunes.  Sorry Apple… that’s just a bit too sneaky for my tastes.

I also experienced a bunch of bugs in Safari for Windows.  As far as my Linux installation… Safari is not even an option.

Usually my only concern with upgrading as soon as a new browser releases is making sure my sites still look good in a previous browser version.  Usually you cant have both old and new versions on one machine.  Unless you get a Win hack like MultipleIEs which allow you to have IE5 through IE6 in one install.

Yep that’s what I do at the moment. Must say that Firefox and Safari though both render things pretty much equal so I’m not too fussed there and I use browsershots.org to test all the less desirable browsers - they know who they are!! 😉

You don’t have to update you know! 😉

Well I’m using Safari on Mac and have never had a problem with it. I think most of the problems with Safari on other platforms will probably be more due to the platform having inherent properties that interfere with Safari.

I’m definitely sticking with Safari though as it is just a much nicer looking, feeling browser for me. Will still be testing in all other major players though.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Actually, Opera has been doing that for a while…

I’ve downloaded and installed FF3. Hopefully the final release will crash less often than RC1 and RC2 did (for me anyway).

I have had to stop using a few extensions as I switched to the release candidates, but except for one they were things I decided I could do without anyway, so that as they updated to work with FF3 I didn’t bother with them. The one exception is apparently a dead letter, but it turned out there was only one piece of it I really wanted, and somebody wrote a separate extension that does that one thing, so…

I tried Safari but didn’t really care for it. I have Opera as my first alternate browser now, IE7 having been demoted to third place.
