I ask as I upgraded my HD to a 7200rpm drive (the standard in laptops is 5400 or even 4200) and noticed a nice speed boost.
As for which drives to buy, I swear by (and rarely at) Seagate Momentus drives, though Apple tends to use Western Digital drives.
