I’ll make sure not to ask for any guesses in the future, as I’m sure to get a lecture on my lack of patience, and on how software released before it is ready is, in fact, not ready to be released.

    😠

I hope it’s just a misinterpretation on my part, or just a small run of posts from various community members in various EE forums I’ve read over the past few days, but there seems to be an attitude of dismissiveness towards many posters - moreso than on the WPMU forums, even. Instead of answering a question posed in a topic, the poster is lectured about the weather or some other unrelated topic. The air of superiority is loathesome. And if I come into these forums and pick up on it immediately, then it’s likely been going on for a long time. I’ve seen the dismissive attitude, the ‘take your ball and go home’ attitude, etc. - all the worst things associated with an online board. I’ve seen plenty of good, too - including right here in this topic of mine - but the good is not what bothers me - it’s what I expect.

    Here’s to hoping I’m wrong!

    😊

    Hi there,

To bring this topic slightly back on track please let me apologise if my post seemed in any way at all dismissive towards you. It was not meant to be at all. I just linked to the information that is all we (as customers and users of ExpressionEngine) have to hand at the moment. I am thinking that perhaps there needs to be a sticky post at the top of each forum explaining about the release of 2.0. Also you did say for anyone to hazard a guess at a release date which I think perhaps I did slightly better than? 😉

I have to say that I have never ever seen any ‘air of superiority’ in these forums at all. All I have ever had from anyone is total professionalism and help whenever possible.

The people in these forums (even though I have not met any of them) I have come to regard as good friends, hopefully they feel the same way about me? (Perhaps the question mark at the end of that wasn’t such a good idea as I might get answers I don’t want to hear but oh well!! 😉 ).

This has to be the first forum I have ever been in after literally hundreds of forums and many many years of being on the internet that I have come to where I feel like I can ask anything and people aren’t going to laugh at me or just tell me to go and look it up. The helpfulness of people in here I think is unsurpassable and is one of the reasons I went with using ExpressionEngine due to the excellent support.

The fact is that none of us here know a date as to when EE 2.0 is coming out so we really only have the information that has been mentioned on the page that I linked to on which we can go by. I will be one of the first to admit that it is a little frustrating but I will also admit over and above that that I know when it does finally rear its head it will be all it has been hyped up to be and a whole lot more as the developer team here are simply fantastic. Where else would you get the heads of the company coming in to the forums to help people out?

I apologise again for my response in that perhaps I shouldn’t have just given the link but maybe explained as well that we know literally as much as anyone else, which is just that it has been said that it will be out in the Summer. That is all we know. I am sorry that I didn’t go into more detail about this.

Hopefully this won’t taint your view of anyone here as I know that if ever I have a problem with anything that I have a group of really solid professional people who I can call upon who will literally bend over backwards to help out and I try my best to do that myself wherever possible.

Here’s hoping to a release soon so that we can all get a good fix of 2.0!! 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark

wow i’ve managed to awaken a few sleepy souls here. it’s interesting how you guys become super offensive as soon as you hear a valid criticism.

say what you want about drupal, but if we were to use the free plugins like everybody else we wouldn’t be thinking of switching!!! the problem with “free” plugins is that they only solve a piece of the problem while exposing the entire system to some ugly risks. with drupal we’ve had memory leaks, extra 350 sql queries per sessions, and many other things. Also when i say we pay money for custom modules and plugins should tell you that maybe we’re doing something a bit specialized and we’re looking for a solid system that takes care of the front-end while we focus on the other things. Drupal doesn’t do that, you can’t leave it alone it’s like a baby that never grows up, we’re not sure about EE, we were going to test EE1.6 but then all the EE2 talk started and after seeing the conference it makes things a whole lot more challenging since the entire back-end is changing.

I agree EE is far from perfect, but at least compared to drupal it has a much better content publishing, forum, wiki and multi-site features. This was suppose to be a compliment to EE!

take it easy guys, it’s just simple question, are we going to see some light at the end EE2 tunnel soon? maybe we should just get EE1.6 and stick with it for at least a year. we’re not in a rush but thanks for telling us we should look into other CMS solutions!

Everybody, keep it friendly or the thread will be closed. And by “keep it friendly” I mean be kind to each other and don’t take things personally. If you want to critique EE or our practices, feel free but play nice.

Yep absolutely. I think this is starting to get out of hand and pretty much very very much off topic too. Not too sure where everything about Drupal came into the equation? 😉

Sorry if anything I wrote was seen to be not friendly in any way as that certainly was not my intention.

    Best wishes,

I do wish that EE were more forthcoming with where they are on the development path (silence is unnerving).

I wouldn’t mistake people’s passion for defensiveness, though. I think most people want to see EE 2.0 sooner than later, wherever you happen to stand on the EE timeline orthodoxy.

It’s EllisLab’s product, though; my point is just let them do what they feel is appropriate.

well any type “miss behavior” on this forum regarding the future of EE2 could have easily been avoided. people keep asking but nobody gets the direct answer to their questions. very much like a politician’s answer!

what can you do, the expectations are high, maybe it’s too much pressure on EE team!

a funny thing, asking about what we should expect of EE2 gives me flash backs of when i was buying a car couple of weeks ago. the salesman kept giving me answers that were anything but answers, maybe he didn’t know or maybe he didn’t want to lose me as a customer.

but time to move on… but something tells me we wouldn’t hear the end of this.

That’s reductive logic. It seems to me that you’re just trying to stir it up. Obviously, I do not agree that a political or car salesman metaphor is appropriate when discussing the release of a piece of software owned by a software company, and it seems even the mention of the two is meant to rile people up.

There is not a shred wrong with what EE is doing with their product, and in fact their approach is entirely reasonable and not without precedent. Market forces will show whether it’s a good strategy, not penny sniping.

If someone cannot handle the silence and it is that much of a problem, EllisLabs has to be prepared for that customer to walk away, if it’s that important.

sigh. Sorry you can’t get along with people Bambam or that you can’t understand a direct answer when we give it to you. Thread closed.
