Interesting new text field editor. Wonder if it could be used with EE?

I’ve also looked into this Markdown editor. It’s exacly what I was looking for, but I don’t know where to start to integrate it in EE. Has anyone tried this? Any suggestions?

I suppose somebody would have to write an extension for it. It definitely works, as you can see from the attached screenshot, but it currently requires hacking cp.display.php, which I advise against.

Also, have you seen markItUp!? Looks very nice, too. And Ryan Masuga is currently writing an extension for that one.

I hadn’t seen MarkItUP!, but it does indeed seem nice. Thanks!

In the meanwhile, I’m still trying to get wmd working on a test site, but I with no succes. I’ve added the line in my cp.display.php file (i’ve made a backup). All paths are correct, but I don’t see the wmd toolbar on my textareas in the EE back-end (I’m using the latest EE version). Can you perhas tell me how you did it? Where exactly dd you insert the javascript-link and did you have to modifiy anything else…?

    Thank for your help,
    Roel

The point is this: by default WMD stlyes the first < textarea> it comes across. Look at the source of your rendered CP to determine which one that is. You might have to disable certain elements of the CP that create one (Trackbacks? Pingbacks?).

Where exactly did you insert the javascript-link and did you have to modifiy anything else…?

Just a quick hack in cp.display.php, line 1493 or thereabouts, the “Footer” function.

What is the advantage of using WMD?  I thought EE’s built-in editor is pretty much like that except it’s missing the preview window….

I think it’s works nicer than the built-in editor. And MarkitUp, for one, is certainly much more powerful.
