Moderator’s note: Split from this thread.

I kind of play around with EE, but haven’t done anything serious with it yet.
There is something I would like to solve with it now, but I am not sure if I will run into a license problem.

Let’s assume your hobby is collecting odd objects…
You search yourself a Forum, because there is so much you need to know about it.

What I dislike about Forums is that everything is stuffed into sections full of threads, from useful info to chatter, from calendars to Pictures.
If you punch in a wrong search term and dare to open a Thread, most likely answer is: “Use the search function” along with a stupid smiley.
For gods sake not here, at least a link is provided…

Forums are just misused, because their users have no other choice.

    Walk in EE…

In Weblogs Users can write about their recent “odd object” finds, fire some additional pictures up the gallery, maybe open a forum thread.

Stuff that has been solved in the Forum goes into the Wiki, and so on.

So far I know, only EE is providing this wonderful “all-in-one” solution…

Now I swiped my CC and bought the forum module and some solspace stuff to dissect this problem.
(A Commercial License I own since ages, because I LOVE to buy software, I don’t really use…  :red: )

Am I allowed to do that obeying the license requirements?

pixeldude, my suggestion would be to write to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with a few more details, they are in a better position to answer that question.

In order to close this question:

Seems that the term “weblog” confused me also…

In my scenario members are not writing blogs, they’re just submitting articles!

If some member wants to have their own blog, they would need to buy a license.

Yes, “weblog” has becoem a bit of an unfortunate choice in recent years, and stems from ExpressionEngines early history. It will change in the upcoming 2.0 version.

If somebody wanted a blog of their own, yes, they’d probably need a licence—although EE Core might be perfectly fine for non-profit ventures.

Glad we solved that (I hope) 😊
