Photo Gallery Questions

    Hi,

I’m considering EE for a new client who is trying to manage a social community of about 200. EE seems perfect in that it’s got the Content, Forum, and Wiki in one package. The thing is, the core application would be the photo gallery. I need members to be able to upload photos as easily as possible while being exposed to as little of the backend as possible. I’m not deeply concerned about their ability to edit the photos they post, but they need to be able to post them very easily.

As far as I can tell, the Photo Gallery module doesn’t allow me to specify which users can post content and only post content, and if we use the SAEF, users have to deal with the somewhat clunky File Upload box (and they have to worry about things like linking).

Is there any way around this? Any really easy way that I can get people to upload (and perhaps manage) their own photos, without giving them access to all of the features of the Photo Gallery?

    Thanks,

    Ben Johnson.

Hi, Ben - you could try Gallery Extended 2.  Are you giving users their own galleries here? Or is the intent a shared gallery with many contributors?

The intention is just a shared gallery where people can upload photos. The current way they’re doing it is by posting photos directly in their forum.

It’s a pretty trusted community, so I wouldn’t be so worried about people editing or deleting photos, but giving them access to the Gallery module also gives them access to Gallery Preferences, which seems that it’s a bit much.

    Thanks for the prompt response!

You might look at Gallery Extended 2 at Solspace.com.  I believe either that, or a separate offering from him, includes a Gallery stand alone entry form.
