Hey Ryan,
I just finished watching the series and my only question so far is…. when does #4 get released.
I see on twitter that you had finished filming…. 😉
I look forward to seeing more.

Wonderful job providing these much-needed screencasts Ryan. They help demystify the entire process for an EE novice like myself who has been frustrated by the appalling (and inexplicable) lack of training material out there.
Your presentation of the material is thorough and wonderfully explained—and, I have to add, one appreciates them even more after viewing the catch-as-catch-can video tutorials offered as an introduction on the EE site.
Keep up the good work.

Just something that I found to be a problem with removing index.php from your links… Ensure that $site_index in your ‘path.php’ file does not contain a value.
Mine was originally set to $site_index = “index.php”; and so I had to remove the index.php in addition to the steps that Ryan mentioned in the screencast.

I also found that (using episode 4) you can modify the link for the News section in the masthead as follows:
<li><a href="/news_articles/page/category/newsclass=current">News</a></li>Ryan… I believe you stated in the screencast to set the if statement to segment_4. On the News listing page, the navigation correctly highlighted the News section. However, when you clicked on an article, the News navigation item was no longer highlighted.
Changing to segment_1 seems to resolve this. Of course I may be preempting something that you will pick up later on. 😊

Hanabi, at around 3:45 into episode 4 the index.php is removed using the control panel. That should be the only step needed to get it working.

Hey Ryan,
I removed it from the General Config page. The index.php seemed to still show for Read Story links.

Hey Hanabi, I’m not sure how it got there, but there but there shouldn’t be anything in the manual configuration area of path.php, as far as I know. Sorry that you ra into an issue there.

Hey, no worries man. I’m not sure if it was perhaps originally there with me having Multi Site Manager installed, as the site that i’m testing (http://www.squarefi.com) is an additional site from the 1 EE installation.

Hey, Lee. #4 is out. 😊
...#5 then?

Hey Lee. Sorry about the late reply, I didn’t get notified of your message. #5 is out now.

Woo Hoo! I’ve got some catching up to do… Haven’t seen #4 yet.
Thanks again Ryan!

Ryan,
Great series so far, I am enjoying each episode!
I have a request. Perhaps you could cover how to set up a simple gallery? I thought maybe the way you could have it fit in with your series is showing an “Engine City Times Gallery of events” which would show a series of photos pertaining to a news article.
I’m trying to setup a photography portfolio page, and am having a hard time figuring it out. 😊
Thanks for your work!
