that part above. I took it that you were saying that if you don’t like OSX then you can instead run WIndows on the computer. I just think that this would be a little wasteful really. I admit first hand that Macs are slightly more expensive than PCs and so doing this, to me, would seem a little wasteful, that was all I meant by what I wrote above.

If you meant something else by that then sorry for the misunderstanding it was just it scanned that way when read.

I totally agree with you about Macs running Windows better than PCs though. I can boot up Vista on my MacBook Pro in under a second. Try that on a PC! 😉
I actually showed my neighbour my computer doing this as he builds PCs from the ground up for a living and he didn’t believe it at first and just thought that I was running a full screen video or something and it was only when he actually got his hands on the computer and saw that he could interact that he went and literally bowed down before it!! 😉 😊 😉

No, that’s exactly what I meant, and why I talked about PC World mentioning that bang-for-the-buck; they aren’t more expensive than a Windows laptop of the same quality.  That you think it’s a waste or backwards is your opinion but others, particularly potential switchers, might not share your opinion, and like the idea that the “safety net” is there even if it never becomes an issue.

Right I totally get your point now. It’s just that all I ever hear from PC users - especially at work - is that Macs are way more expensive even if they are better to use. I know that this used to be the case and that in recent times they have come down a lot in price but my neighbour would definitely disagree on getting a Mac for the same price as the ones he builds 😉

Sorry but as I didn’t see a link to the PC world review I kind of missed what you were saying there. Is there a link to that somewhere on the net as it could be useful in the future as I am all for turning everyone I meet into a Mac-Head!! 😉

I could be wrong but aren’t the .plist files just for storing preferences for applications (property list files)?

I don’t think they actually run anything at all rather just tell an application what its settings for a certain user are?

Could be wrong though.

Vista is a lost cause and always was. (notice the period LOL)
You can request XP on laptop no matter the brand.

One major keystroke difference is $.

You better ask what are you going to use this laptop for?
College as in - word and powerpoint presentations, viewing 2-3 docs in excel? Or as in graphics desing college running Autocad or some beast? Or as in you need to look cool at the coffe shop?
What is your lovel of support need should something go wrong?

Bottom line buy what you need, chances are this laptop will get obused and will be worthless in a 2 yrs anyhow. Not to mention whole college (on campus) life that can take toll on your possesions…

A few things I have repeatedly heard from die hard mac users:
- I love my mac
- They run forever and barely crash
- I don’t care you are my dad,I am not giving you a copy I paied $xxxx.xx for this software

You also want to check that your classes or computer labs can accomodate your OS needs.
Mac makes nice products…and if you make nice income you should live happily ever after. 😊
