    Hi everyone!

I’m new here, and I must say that what I have seen so far is impressive! Thanks to all contributors of this framework and community.

I am on a very very slow dialup, typically I am on around 24Kb. :-( Living in the countryside has many other advantages though. 😊 Anyway, I am having a hard time downloading files from this site. It gets part of the way through the download and then just drops off. This happens for any file over around 50KB no matter how many times I try, I’ve tried with IE, FF, Opera, and using FlashGet. I only ever experience this on one other site- download.com - and am wondering if there is a short timeout set for downloads? Or some other reason why I am having this problem? I had to get the main CI download through SVN, I figured it worked since it was downloading individual files instead of a single package.

Does anyone else ever have this problem??

Can anyone please help me figure out what is happening and how to get around it? I’m getting a little frustrated trying to download some of the code files from the wiki.

    Thanks!

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Try downloading it from my server and let me know if you have any luck: CodeIgniter_1.6.2.zip

    Hi Developer13,

Thanks for posting the file to your site, I downloaded it with no problem. I usually have no problem downloading files over 100MB, even if it takes around 2 days to get it! 😊, but for some reason from this site I can’t seem to get over around 70ish KB before the download gets dropped, it’s usually in the 1.5 to 2 KB/sec speed range. I’d like to get the EE core files and some of the larger files from the wiki, guess I’ll have to wait until I go somewhere else to be able to grab those files. 😊

Has anyone else experienced this? Or do I have the slowest download rate around? 😊

    Thanks,

    Matt

When I was on dial-up, I had loads of problems with this too. I just got it from the SVN. I think it’s something to do with a connection error or something.

    Happy CodeIgniting!

If you live in the UK but can’t get conventional broadband, have a look into three mobile broadband, for only a £10 a month you get a 1gb of bandwidth which is enough for over 6hours a day surfing, 60mp3 tracks a month and more.

I’m in the rural mountains of West Virginia in the US. I could get satellite but I have friends that use it and hate it, plus it’s kind of pricey. Since my local cell phone towers have older technology, the company says they are upgrading but won’t way when, the speeds are faster than what I have now but not enough to make it worth spending $60 month. So what I am going to do over the summer is get a wireless internet card with an external antennae jack, run a coax cable to one of those huge black satellite dishes that everyone around here wants to get rid of out of their yards, take out the receiver unit and replace it with a double bi-quad antennae that I will make, and point the dish towards the nearest Sprint tower about 45 miles away so that I can get true broadband and unlimited bandwidth. Luckily I am on top of a mountain, literally the peak is about 200 yards from my house and it’s one of the tallest around, so I have a great shot at a long distance hookup. Then, downloading from the CI site won’t be a problem anymore. 😊

But, anyway, hopefully one of the devs or moderators will see this post and let a person that can address the issue know that there is a problem for slower dialup users. I think that they would want to rectify the problem ASAP to make sure that all folks can download their products! 😊 It’s definitely something sitewide since I can’t download from the EE site either. Perhaps it’s the timeout limit in the site’s PHP ini file?

I am working my way through the User’s Manual and I am very impressed and excited by what I am seeing. My hat is off to Rick Ellis and his fabulous team for designing such a flexible and robust framework, built with sound principals.

Now if only I could check out the EE core….. 😊
