    Hiya,

Sorry didn’t know where to post this one really so have plopped it in here.

I was just wondering if perhaps someone at EllisLab could help clear something up for me?
Or anyone else who may know the answer

With the fact that we know that EE2.0 is coming out at some point and on the video that was released it stated that no more updates would be done to the v1.6.x branch of the software (I think I heard that correctly didn’t I - If I didn’t then please ignore the rest of this post 😉 ) is it worthwhile us (ExpressionEngine users) still popping in feature requests for items?

I just ask as there are a few things which I would love to have in the software which are more usability updates than feature requests but I know that a lot of people are still asking for new features to be added but I am just wondering if it is a waste of our time asking if they won’t be added in for definite?

Hopefully that last paragraph didn’t sound negative? It wasn’t meant to.

I only ask going on what I (think) I heard on the video.

    Thanks for looking in.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

I don’t see why we shouldn’t continue with the FRs. If they end up being in 2.0 then perfect. If not, then I would assume you still want them and the EE crew will still read them.

    Hi Erin,

I was just meaning feature requests for the 1.6.x branch. As I don’t know what EE2.0 is going to hold as of yet I thought that it might be silly asking for feature requests that may or may not be able to be added to the new version or more over are already in there. Was just thinking it might save a lot of people a lot of writing (feature requests) and reading (dev team reading said feature requests).

    I get your point though.

    Best wishes,

Feature Requests are not version specific, so yes, you can continue to add feature requests.

    Hi Lisa,

Thanks for that although I was still thinking that a lot of feature requests that people are asking for will probably be addressed with 2.0 so was really just thinking about the poor dev team reading all the requests and thinking “It’s coming in 2.0!” 😉

They probably like being in the know like that, and get a good laugh out of knowing how happy those requesters are going to be when the new version hits. Kind of like hearing the kid keep asking Santa for a new bike when the thing has been locked up in the toolshed out back since the week after Thanksgiving.

Besides—they can’t possibly have thought of everything.

    Can they…?

OK, did the preview vid’s say no more releases until 2.0. I’m kind of in a holding pattern, procrastinating on the fact that maybe there will be a 1.6.3+ maybe it’s maxed out on that branch. I’m stoked by the fact that 1.6 something will be upgradable, because I could of swore somewhere it was mentioned, before the previews, that 1.6 and back whatever may not be upgradeable. There clearly will be an upgrade path, then it sounded like.
Thanks for starting a version specific thread then Mark 😊

    Hiya,

If you look at the video at Gear Live and at around about 31:40 Paul is asked the very question and said that currently they don’t have any plans for updates or new modules for the 1.x branch of ExpressionEngine. I know that isn’t a definitive answer but that is why I was asking really.

What was said is that there will still be bug and security fixes though. Obviously none of us know if there are going to be any more add-ons or feature requests added into the 1.x branch so I was just wondering if it was possible to get some clarification on the fact just so that we can make the lives of the developers a little easier if nothing else 😉

Not sure if I should take the thank you at the end of your post as a compliment or a dig though tz3ee 😉 😊 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark
