Hi, I’m just saw (in this tread) a new moderator feature allowing hide useless post.
Is this feature implement on EE forum 2.1.0. or is it made specially for this forum?
Thanks for explanation
This is an archived forum and the content is probably no longer relevant, but is provided here for posterity.

Derek J created the extension to help tech support tweak the experience on this forum. He didn’t comment on whether he was making it public and I didn’t spot it in the downloads, but I’ll give him a ‘heads up’ on the thread so he can chime in. (It is nifty.)
Think I’ll also shift this over to ‘General’ since it isn’t tech support per se.

Derek got back on this one and said it wasn’t quite ready for prime time yet (and to be clear- this is an extension we’re talking about)- it’s a little ‘this forum’ specific at the moment. But is on his ‘list of things he’d like to do’, so hopefully in the near future something a bit more general will be coming out.
(It is neat, isn’t it!)

I found it more attention raising than attraction hiding for the so hidden postings. Maybe I’m just too curious.

Maybe I am too, but I have to agree with the assessment. The issue, I think, lies with the design rather than the functionality, though.
If the collapsed posts were less conspicuous (lighter colors, etc), it might get them more out of the way.

Well, typically it would only be necessary for a single reply to a thread, so would not be so conspicuous. I’ll demonstrate below by collapsing my own reply. In the thread linked above, however, Mark and I both strayed away from a helpful discussion for the original poster, and normally that would be a situation for a split thread, but it would have lost its context. Perhaps that still would have been the better trade off in that particular instance.

My favorite part was when William turned to Frank and said, “Krakow!”

Derek, just curious: Will the content only be hidden for the user by your extension or will it be hidden from search as well?
Background: I was using a forum for a seminar once and some out of place discussion had to be hidden (it was not using EE as a backend) - only option was to delete some content but then users shouted: “censorship”. Having the content hidden from immediate viewing and from search as well would have been great at that situation.

No, it won’t be hidden from search, as a quick test confirmed.

Funny me ... I didn’t even think of trying, Ingmar.
No, really: Of course I did. Derek (was) said it wasn’t ready for prime time - so my remark was not what happens now, but what would be expected.

Obviously, all features are subject to change 😊 But seriously: What Derek referred to, I think, was the fact that this extension currently meets the rather specific needs of this site. It will take some additional effort to make it useful for a wider range of people, but that would not necessarily affect the implemented features as such.

Point taken. You’re right! The multiple consquetive collapsed posts are probably what drew attention to them. And in any case, I suppose the real utility of this feature is not to hide posts as much as it is to provide visual cues to where the real information about the issue lies. So, if someone comes around later trying to solve the same problem, they know where to expect valid solutions and where things might not be of such great use (even if he/she chooses to read them).
Either way, it’s a cool feature. I imagine it can be real useful is some instances.
