    My $0.02.

    - I noticed that you have an AMD 64bit core. Make sure to install the 32 bit version of Ubuntu. You’ll have a lot less issues with drivers and software with it.
    - I personally run Kubuntu and it’s sweet.

Too late.  I’ve already installed the 64bit.

My only problem at this point, with drivers etc., is that my Lexmark x7350 printer is not compatible.  Zero functionality.  Lexmark states they do not support Linux, period.  I told them I would never buy or recommend a Lexmark product again.

Oh, well.  I was going to shell out a bit of cash for a laser printer next month anyway, I’ll just get the proper one.

After playing with Ubuntu a while, I am really impressed.  However, I think I’m going to have to bump it up to Kubuntu or CentOS.  Learning to get things configured and up and running wasn’t as hard as I thought.  Turns out I remember more than I thought from the 70’s, when I worked with Unix.  Been a while, but the principles are exactly the same.  Things seem strangely familiar and I’m comfortable with it.

I’m still going to run a dual boot system, with XP and Linux.  I know I can run Wine, but I will still have need of Windows (unfortunately) for a little while longer.

Thanks for all the rockin’ help in this thread!

What are peoples views about openSuse? It looks nice but has anyone used it and is it better or worse than ubuntu?

Trust me it’s not. If it’s a fresh install go back to 32 bits before it really gets to be too late.
