    Hey all,

I just thought I would post a link to the revamped, not yet complete, rough around the edges, launch it then fix it version of http://ekjobs.ca

Like stated above it is a rough-in for a revamp, however it needed to be in and up. Now for those of you who visit in IE6, well for one why the heck are you using IE6? and second it probably looks like garbage…. Get a real browser   😉 . (the IE6 issues will be fixed along with a few image changes.)

So this is my plea for suggestions/criticism and whatnot…

    Thanks!

I feel like at some point, fonts get so big they’re illegible, and I end up reading them letter-by-letter….otherwise, it’s fine 😊

navigation and introduction. I understand what you’re trying to do…but IMHO it looks a little obnoxious

I agree somewhat, however we did extensive research in our area of sites that are an are not performing, current local advertising trends and age/education relationships. At the end of it we wanted to have something we could strongly brand in the region and advertise effectively within the region (ie the side of the EkJobs Truck and Signs).

This look and feel had to utililize larger fonts for the call to action for job posters (Older demograph, average age of business owner in this area is 55+ and newspapers readership is 65+) and in talking with those who had posted in the past as well as those who have not we found that the previous font size made it difficult to read what we had to offer and they passed it by.

And then we had to appeal to those looking for a job and made the job postings a smaller font for greater density and appealing to the candidate (under 45) who is looking the maximum amount of ads.

I think with two very different age groups we have done well to appease both.

    Very Canadian.

Just kidding - job well done.  The only thing I don’t like about it is… hmmmm… how it blends from the contrast toward the top to the lack of contrast before the list starts, then the list brings back contrast again… does that make sense??

i don’t want to be the pessimist of the bunch…but it’s not working for me. I can’t tell you exactly what it is or how to fix it…there’s no flow…no consistency from the top to the bottom (I really love the way you setup the list of jobs though, it’s very clean and user friendly)

Great Site!! Can you provided a little insight on what you used for your form validation? Did you used the built-in CL validation or some other custom validation class?

@Lee: I think this is something I was trying to say with my previous post… at least another way to put it?

@Jtaby: There had to be some separation between the two areas as the Top portion needs to appeal to the Employer looking to place a job and the bottom portion is intended for the job seeker. As the first group monetizes the site it needed prominence and calls to action. Maybe it is not working as well as we thought, however we will see how our stats adjust over the coming few weeks before we make changes again to the design.

@bnewton: Just the standard CI Validation… nothing fancy

@audiopleb: Thank you! This is a revamp for EkJobs.ca and has been around for quite some time, nothing technically changed just some UI love. I can say though that I have looked at iheartrant so I would imagine somewhere in my mind it has some influence.

    @D13: Very American responses 😉

We Americans are very decisive people.
