    Hi,

I’m still a bit confused about the functionality of EE’s native search. From what I understand at the moment it queries all of a weblogs entries’ fields and returns them per your template settings but omits categories from these results?

Would something like this example be possible? (I.e. Search results list displays custom fields per entry and results are grouped by categories; e.g. ‘Ground Campuses’ v. ‘Online Campuses’)

Thanks in advance for any insights or clarification.

    Best,
    Clayton

    Hi, Clayton,

The search goes across all categories unless told specifically not to.

There is not an out of the box way that I’m aware of to have our search results grouped the way you are asking.  Should be possible with some PHP or a plugin, however.

You can output a list of categories with Entries assigned to them, that looks like this:

    Category 1
    -Title
    - Title
    - Title

    Category 2

    - Title
    - Title
    - Title

But that is not from the search results - that’s another ExpressionEngine tag for category archives.
