I just got myself a little contracting gig and I would like a way to keep track of my time and generate invoices.

I could just use Numbers, but I was wondering if anyone recommends another app? I am keen on simple but elegant interfaces.

    Thanks

    Billings, by marketcircle, is fantastic.

I’ve been using iBiz for years - ever since it was called iWork, before Apple took over that word.

If you want to consider a web-based app, why not try out BambooInvoice?  Based on CodeIgniter and written by Derek Allard himself. =)

    I love Billings.

    One problem though:
In Billings you make Clients, Projects and working slips.  This is great, but you cannot create an invoice by client, only by project - so let’s say you do coding work for a design firm and work on half a dozen projects over a billing period, you have to make half a dozen invoices.

I demo’d another app that would actually bill by Client, but I had already fallen in love with Billings’ punch clock so I stuck with it.  The other app’s interface was not as simple and clear.  I can’t remember what it was but I could probably figure it out.  There’s an older thread here that mentions a bunch of apps.

That looks good for invoicing, but the other two apps (Billings2 and iBiz) allow you to track hours as well. Billings2 is beautiful but a little awkward to enter “slips”. iBiz is a little cheaper and not quite as pretty, but it seems easier to add information.

    Thanks

I use Billings as well. Love it. There are some other suggestions in this thread:

I am amazed nobody has mentioned Freshbooks (affiliate link) yet. Webbased, but perferct fro freelancers, does all your timekeeping and billing, as well as a basic ticket system.

Yup, saw that in the thread mentioned above. I was just coming in here to mention it.

    It is what I chose.

    Thanks

I use MYOB. I don’t need all the time-tracking type stuff as I never charge by the hour unless it’s for small updates to a site and then they are easy to track.

It’s the most ugliest Mac interface available with interface windows opening up absolutely everywhere but there is literally nothing missing from this program. You can even file your Tax Return from it which saves a lot of time and the output it gives is 100% compatible with the accountants software.

I do wish they would bring the interface into at least the 80’s though 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Me to. I was able to find this so I think we are not going to be able to try it.
