we aren’t arguing you can’t use the noun blog as a verb. We are arguing that using it as such is ugly and unpleasing and we think it should stop.

So, because you feel unpleasant with the usage, others should stop their behavior?
Sorry, that sounds plain stupid to me.

Ingmar, do you live in the Tower of Babel?

Our argument, which is preferential and subjective, is that the word “blog” sounds ugly, and we don’t like ugly words. That’s it!

OK, can’t really argue with that. Well, I won’t, at any rate, what with beauty being in the eye etc. It’s just that it did initially not quite come across that way, to me at least.

I don’t really want to get too involved in this one as I’m English and work in advertising so there are probably about 100 different wrong doings in just this one sentence that I am writing now but perhaps less of the ‘stupid’?

No one is stupid. We just all have differences of opinions.

    Right I’m out of here!!!

    Cheers,

    Mark

I can think of many ugly and unpleasing words. Fundamentalism and Puritanism are a few of them. But, can I ban them? And even if I could, could I ban the phenomenon?

Good Lord, are you now implying implying we’re advocating a ban on blogging?

Let’s ignore the fact that “Fundamentalism/Puritanism” and “blog” are two different types of nouns (proper and common, respectively). Why is it so outlandish for us to say that a word should be replaced with a more pleasing alternative?

So, because you feel unpleasant with the usage, others should stop their behavior?
Sorry, that sounds plain stupid to me.

Seriously? So, if I think that discarding plastic bottles instead of recycling them is unpleasant and others should stop doing it then I’m stupid?

Ah, I see. Sorry, my inner geek got carried away there. See this for an explanation.

If I have to close a thread because people are arguing and getting irritated at each other over the grammatical usage of “blog” I’m going to be smurfing mad. Play nice. Thanks.

Maybe a little entropy is good for the system? 😉
