    Here’s the story:

First off, note that the people suing have the last name of “Boring”.

Is this another case of “I spilled coffee in my lap and had no idea it would be hot so I’m going to sue?” or do you think it’s an actual invasion of their privacy?

This is nonsense.  It’s a picture of their house, not them, not their kids.  Just a house among a milion others.  They’re in it for the money.

I guess with the advent of these “privacy braking” technologies there will be more jobs for lawyers :D

I agree with that statement. Not to mention, in the article Google says they will remove the pictures if they find the reason valid.

[quote author=“FromTheArticle”]The Allegheny County real estate website has a photo, plus a detailed description of the home and the couple’s name.

Have you guys seen the details on here? Its a lot more into the privacy that showing a picture of those house.

Just another set of money grubbing people.

Google have these street images all over the world, including London. Why should one couple complain when the rest of the world don’t mind. My house is also included in one of these images but it doesn’t matter be cause no one knows I live there unless I give details of which one it is.

They have a point if Google had to enter their private drive to take the pictures.
If it was meant to be so private, I would expect a gate barring access though.

They may have a point if google entered a private estate to take the pictures but if they were taken by satilite, like most, then the person complaining should not have mentioned, the photographs if they did not want there privacy disturbed.

Exactly - would they consider it to be a privacy violation if somebody simply stood there looking in the general direction of their house?  Utterly stupid.

btw - I like the ‘fueled by CI’ badge.

i don’t think they’re suing over people being able to “see” their house. They have a private road sign which google had no business going into.

Pretty funny. Although I did come across this: http://valleywag.com/376276/couple-sues-google-over-street-view-pics-of-their-house 😊

By using a county GIS service you can find out all sorts of details that I would prefer not be available. I guess we should sue the county as well.

I think you just have to read the first paragraph to answer this poll:  “caused them mental suffering.”  I call BS!

Their case is going to fail miserably because you have to prove that you attempted to mitigate the damages that you are alleging were inflicted upon you.  They made no attempt to contact Google and have the images removed, therefore their case is invalid.  The judge is likely to throw it out via summary judgment.

It’s funny that the military complained to Google that they had some images of bases on there that the military didn’t want available to public and Google removed them.  The military didn’t have to sue nor did they have to invade 😉
