Why, what seems to be the problem?

I outlined the issues here.  In a nutshell:
    * Customizations and hacky things (not hacks to core files) I’ve had to do to get EE to do what I want, that may break after upgrade
    * Reliance on undocumented or unreliable EE behavior
    * Reliance on third party enhancements that may not work after upgrade

Thank you for your suggestion. Perhaps you would like to make it an official feature request?

No thanks.  If someone else wants to they’re welcome to, but I haven’t had very encouraging results with bringing up issues with EE.

I see. You are, of course, aware that we are unable to provide support for such non-standard installations. As Robin said, however, you are using quite an old version of EE. Updating only gets harder over time, never easier.

I am sorry to hear that. Does

I can fix this myself, but I expected that setting to prevent this behavior.

mean you require no further assistance? In this case I’d like to close this thread.

    Hey all,

The Stand Alone Entry Form, out of the box, handles only adding entries; it is not intended as an edit form.  While there is the Form Helper plugin which can help with turning this into an edit form, that is beyond standard support.  Since the SAEF is only for adding entries, and does not include an author drop-down - if you do require authors be able to edit other authors’ entries, then it may be best to use the Publish page and standard edit procedures.

Jesse - Feature Requests may not result in an immediate addition or modification, but many, many of our new features come directly from feature requests, and so I would highly recommend posting a feature request.  I also understand that you disagree with some of how ExpressionEngine works; however, if you do need technical support down the line for something that should work and isn’t working, we may request that you upgrade - especially if you are after a feature that simply does not exist in your version, or for a bug that has been fixed since the version you are on.

    * Reliance on undocumented or unreliable EE behavior

ExpressionEngine is well documented, and the behavior is reliable and consistent.  Your choices for organization and development methods have created additional hardships that do not affect most EE users or 3rd party developers.

In any case, Jesse, your concerns have been re-hashed several times and we are well aware of them, there is no need for you to bring them up at every opportunity.

It appears you have a solution, so while I do apologize that we can not assist you in this particular instance, I am happy that you have a solution for what you need to do.
