Wow, there’s no way to boost one’s post count faster than a thread like this…
Can we save these sorts of threads for the forums of just about any other site? I think the EE forums are very useful precisely because we don’t have to wade through numerous threads that aren’t constructive.

Do posts in the Lounge count against your total? Why would they?
And why have a lounge if it’s not about unconstructive stuff?
Meh. (grumbling cuz u might b right). 😕
Now mdesign? 😊
EDIT: Yes they do. :shut:

Hi Active users, hey toss my name in the hat as a possible next post-er too.
Am I the only one ever afraid of posting too much on a forum?
Is a massive post count always a good thing, I suppose if they are all enthusiastic and maybe even helpful posts, then it is.

I gave up on ever achieving “power user” status when they reassessed the threshold numbers a while back. Then again, if the threshold is 1,000 I’m almost there.
Again.

Post, post, post, post…
Post, post, post, post…
Post, post, post, post…
Post, post, post… woo hoo!!
Hey I just noticed I’m well over a third of the way there with an even 350, w00t!

You wouldn’t believe the wealth and fame that comes with being a Power User.
#39 / Mar 31, 2008 4:39pm
Hmmm,
Where do you get the wealth and fame from? I don’t seem to have received mine. No post, no cheque, nothing
😉

If you’re socializing and being polite, then yes, the Lounge is welcome to you to use for silliness. If your sole purpose for a thread or post is to simply elevate your post count or to increase the size of our database, however, a moderator might cut you off at the pass.

Well speaking for myself I think possibly it has gone a bit too far now so I’m off out of here. Please no-one else use my name as a way of getting extra posts or bringing down the EllisLab site due to an elevated database size 😉
Those people know who they are 😊
Really though I am out now as this has gone a little too far.
On a related note Derek, is it possible to create a forum area where the posts wouldn’t count? Just wondering how flexible the system is in that regard.
I know I shouldn’t have asked that last question as EE is really really really really flexible but thought I would ask anyway
Best wishes,
Mark

Dude you are so busted. Posting that you aren’t posting anymore, you know you won’t be able to stick to it.
Best of luck with that 😊
[edit:]Great ad lib asking the programmer a programmer question, thus giving the whole discussion, if this is a discussion some relevance, priceless.
Not another word!
word
Thanks Sheriff Jones, that goes along with the head ‘em off at the pass comment 😊

Funny guy… Ingmar Wiseacre… 😏 😛
I honestly didn’t even think of the whole “post count” game, maybe because I always thought people took those with a grain of salt…

@Jared - yes hopefully no one takes post counts as a serious measure of one’s relevance in the forums. There are however some features that are tied to having become part of the community, such as requiring 100 posts to be able to add comments to the User Guide. But the point is that increasing your post count for even a semblance of some sort of status is beyond the reasonable amount of silliness that this community (and I’m not just speaking about EllisLab staff) tolerates.
On a related note Derek, is it possible to create a forum area where the posts wouldn’t count?
@Mark - There are other forums, or even your own personal sites, which posting to will have absolutely no effect on your post count on our sites. 😉 Your user stats are based directly on records in the database, so it would require an additional field ‘display_count’ or something, with separate tracking, to implement a system where certain forums didn’t contribute to what other users saw as your post total. But, as I mention to Jared, it’s a silly metric for anyone to be using to gauge relevance.

@Derek: Thank you for the explanation. It makes sense now that I’m thinking about it. 😊
