    Hi All,
Is this possible with EE’s mailing component ?

Admin should be able to specify different mailing lists (just like a custom field). The users (when joining) should be able to select which mailing list they want to subscribe (instead of receiving all irrelevant mails to him), and then should be able to change his preferences any time. The ‘mailing’ feature should support sending mails only to the people who subscribed to particular list.

For example, separate mailing lists of JAVA, .NET, PHP, MAINFRAME (assuming my site is technical site) where the users can choose to be part of one or more of these lists of their interest.

I know 3 rd part programs like ‘aweber’, ‘constantcontact’ can do this. But I want all member data to be on my server.

It will be even better if the user mailing preferences are stored in my server and also integrates with ConstantContact so that I can use their mailing (assuming that I purchased ConstantContact’s services).

In that way, if in future if I decide to terminate ConstantContact’s services, I can still mail to all my members using my own mailing server.

I have seen some ConstantContact integration component details at ‘solspace’, but not sure how that works.

I haven’t played with Solspaces version of CC integration, so can’t comment directly on that one.  I have integrated it before, and it’s easy enough to do using extensions and their API, though I didn’t fully integrate- so that if they change their email addy on my EE site it would sync with CC.  So not sure how difficult what I’d consider ‘full integration’ would be.  I’d definitely ask on the solspace forums, though.  They’re a helpful crew.

The one tricky bit from an EE perspective- whether you’re going for CC integration or not- is having multiple mailing list sign-up on the registration page.  It’s easy to give a checkbox for a single mailing list sign-up, but by default, it won’t take multiple sign-ups.  That said?  Seems to me it would be easy to do via an extension.

I’d ask the Solspace crew for some details on their CC integration- may well fit what you want completely.  If not, I suspect it could be custom coded without too much angst.

    Make sense?

    Suri—

I’m wondering if you ever investigated working with Solspace to solve your mail management and sync issues. I am investigating integrating the exact same type of subscription/account features and would love to hear what you settled on.
