A site I’m working on isn’t even live yet (just hidden behind another template group) and I get a couple people a day signing up with names like “Free RX For U” or something like that.

How do you fight against these people? Just delete them when they register, is that about all that can be done?

Alot of the spam I’m seeing is human entered. Cheap labor in Russia/India so they manually surf and enter spam all day long. There really isn’t a way to block the bad humans without blocking the ones you want.

Yeah true. That’s all I get on my blog these days in the form of comments. They are sort of on topic to the original post, but obviously spam.

Ya, there’s been some I’ve had to read 2-3 times to determine if it’s for real or spam. I usually look at their email address and that’s the final giveaway. Or the link they usually include.

Would it be possible to extend “IP to Nation” to make it impossible for users from certain countries (IP numbers) to register as members on the Forums?

I run a language specific site and get several registrations a day from spammers in China, India, Romania, Ukraine, Russia etc. But since I require confirmation through e-mail, most of the time it stops there. But it’s a nuisance, that’s for sure.

You don’t need to extend it - click on IP to Nation in your modules list, you’ll see a “Manage Banned Countries” option. =)

With all due respect, I don’t think that option works in this case. I use IP to Nation and has Romania securily checked as a banned country (sorry all Romanians out there!). Still (last time today) users with IP numbers from Romania are able to register as members on the Forums. (And I don’t think I can go much wrong with that module, can I?)

What do you reckon?

Well, that’s good news… at least it should be working with IP to Nation. I’d better head over to Technical Support then.
