I’m building a site that will hopefully be getting a moderate amount of traffic and comment postings. Even on my personal blog I have had to turn on comment reviewing and to be perfectly honest I hate to moderate my comments, I would like a really good automatic system to filter spam. I know that EE has the inbuilt captcha but I’m not a big fan. So what do you all use and how effective is it?

I was hoping for EE to support something like Askimet or Re-Captcha out of the box, especially for a paid for product.

    Any other suggestions?

PS. I’m supprised that Yahoo! or Google have not released an API for an anti spam comment system.

Akismet here. It kicks the crapola out of the spam I’ve had on my site - I think it’s let one though, with no false positives that I’ve noticed.

There’s accessible captcha (see quote below) too, and bad behavior.

This extension changes the captchas from graphic words to user-definable questions and answers. The settings allow you to create up to 8 simple questions and answers that will be randomly chosen in place of the captcha.

Thanks I think I’ll give the Askimet a go first. But that accessible captcha sounds great. I’m not a big captcha fan but asking real world questions seems to be good. Thanks for the links all.
