    I have a text input field with formatting set to NONE, called {purchase}

    I’m posting Amazon URLs in here, but the problem exhibits with short, normal urls.

    When I post the following in my template,

    <a href="http://{purchase}">Purchase</a>

    I would expect the text “purchase” to be a link to the URL, correct?

    Instead I see this (using http://www.amazon.com as an example)

    http://www.amazon.com/”>Purchase

    I have no clue why this happens. I’ve changed the text formatting for the field, with no change in output.

    Thoughts?

    If I’m not mistaken, it’s probably due to the fact that EE automatically converts emails and URLs into links.  You need to turn this option off per weblog via the admin settings.

    That cracked it, thank you!
