If they add a file-manager-type feature to it… this will be perfect! I sure hope so!!!

I can’t get the video / screencast here to work:
    http://expressionengine.com/ee2_sneak_preview/

Any ideas? MAC OSX - all my other quicktimes wrk OK. Does this use a special codec that I am missing? Or is this not Quicktime at all. I get the EllesLab and [Click to Play] then I get QT logo with question mark.

I have looked before and it worked. Have you encoded this differently?

    Any clues?

You might have a bad cache file, Chris.  First make sure you are using the latest version of Quicktime.  Then delete your ~/Library/Caches/Quicktime folder.  Clear your browser caches as well, and see if that fixes it.  Kurt had a similar problem that fixed upon restart.  If it worked for you before, a bad cache file is my best guess.

Still no go. I can run the Video Tutorials, so I think there must be some problem with the code on this page:
    http://expressionengine.com/ee2_sneak_preview/

I have even downloaded the movie file and run locally, so I know I have the right QT version… Anybody esle have the same problem?

BTW - EE 2.0 looks terrific

I actually saw the broken quicktime logo myself (logo with the ? in the center), but I reloaded the page and it worked fine. Not sure I can help, but you’re not crazy at least 😉

I had just installed the safari browser on win, I couldn’t get it to play in my favorite browser firefox either. It loads the click to play EE logo, but clicking it and it just hangs. Safari ran it fine.
It could be my QT plugin, QT’s always been temperamental, at least on win imo. Just bug reporting to be helpful. (edit: downloaded the latest Qt plugin now I see the Q with the question mark in front, still no work-ee).

I’m on a Mac and I got the Quicktime problem as well - said I needed to upgrade Quicktime but I am on a daily system update on the Mac so I have the latest Quicktime - but when I clicked the download the file link bottom left the videocast opened up and played in my browser.

Can those who were having problems with the movie container clear their browser and Quicktime caches and try it again?  There was a path issue in one of the object tags that I just fixed up.

    Works fine now. Thanks Derek.

Raises an interesting point though: maybe for the Lounge ... what is the best way to deliver Quicktime? Make a special page for it and have all the object / embed stuff in there - or ... just link to it and let the browser deal with it (or not?)

How did you do this one? Why is it different from the ones in the video tutorials? And did you know that the ones in the video tutorials are not set for auto start?

    CJ

If you post to the Lounge with that, I’ll be happy to answer it, but don’t wish to derail this topic to a conversation about Quicktime. :-D

Loads fine for me now too, in ff on win, all that, sorry for whining. Thought it important an issue for future screencasts was the main reason for chiming in.
It’s a very pro screencast, love it.

    Yep working a treat now!

It’s the little bits of usability that have got me so excited - simple things like the sorting tables, something I did ask for a while back in feature requests, that will make EE an absolute joy to use. Overall very, very impressive. I have not been this excited about a piece of software since Firebird brought Elite out on the Spectrum…

I guess two big curiosities of mine involve relationships and revisions. Does 2.0 keep the same paradigm in these areas as the 1.X branch? Inquiring minds want to know!

I haven’t heard anymore news about EE2.0 and it has been weeks. I feel all of the excitement has kinda died off (tends to happen when you don’t get news and all). Anything new?
