    Hello,

I want to turn the EE system “offline” and only allow me, a superadmin to view it. But when I set the system to off I just get a system offline page. Is there another step I am missing?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Dan,

You will get the system offline page if you aren’t logged-in to the system. As long as you are logged-in and you are a Super Admin then you will get to see the site.

Definitely check that you are logged-in as 9 times out of 10 it will be that.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Mark,

Thanks for the quick reply. I doubled checked and I am logged in. I have 2 windows open, one of my control panel and the other containing the “front end” of the site. Is there something setting I need to modify in user management?

    Thanks!

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

It might be your cookie settings in that case. If you go to :

    Admin->System Preferences->Security and Session Preferences

Make sure you have the two drop downs set to :

Control Panel Session Type - Cookies and session ID
User Session Type - Cookies only

    Hopefully that will work?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hey Mark,

I checked the setting you listed above and they are correct. I emptied my cache, cookies, and restarted my browser just to make sure and I still get the offline page when logged in. I tried going into my “templates” from the CP and clicking on “View Rendered Template” just to make sure, and it was the same.

    Any other possibilities?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Dan, if you are visiting your domain via http://www.yoursite.com and you are cookied in to yoursitename.com—you won’t have the right cookie to be seen as the SuperAdmin.

You can set Cookie Domain and see if that helps. Or log in with the www or non-www version of your site that matches your current cookie.

    Sue,

It looks like my problem was coming from Safari. I logged out the CP on Safari, and fired up Fire Fox and I am able to view the site while offline. For some reason, I am unable to log into to the control panel in Safari now, I even went through and requested to reset my password, entered the new password and still a no go. I tried removing my cookies from Safari and still unable to log in. Have you ever heard of this before?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Not sure what the problem was within Safari, but I am able to log in now. Maybe some sort of a time delay required? ..not sure. Thanks for all your help Sue and Mark.

    Hi Dan,

No problem. Glad it is all working for you now. Sorry I didn’t reply sooner but had finished work for the day (what a day!!) and only just got home to see your posts.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
