This is confusing me way more than it should.

I want to create a form which allows users to edit a weblog entry. I have googled and searched but can’t find any ways of doing this which is surprising because it strikes me as a simple thing to do?

I tried the Form Help from solspace, but for some reason this knocks out the weblogs link to a forum article, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

    Am I missing something?

Well weblog editing is done via the EE backend, the same place you use to publish them. I might be missing the point here, but why would you want to rewrite that functionality?

I was hoping to build a simplified form, without having to login to any backend. For example when you write on someones wall on facebook or post a message on this forum.

Actually you can edit weblog entries without using the EE admin back-end which is what I think that Sceneshift is after. I must admit that I have never done this on sites and just give the client a back-end login but it is definitely possible using the SAEF code and the Solspace Form Helper Plugin.

There is also a WIKI entry which have a similar kind of action.

    Hope some of this helps?

I know there are definitely quite a few posts on this forum though that deal with Stand Alone Entry Forms though so perhaps a quick search here will help you out. If not then perhaps a post would be in order over at the Solspace forums as they created the Form Helper plugin and so would be much better off to help you out with that.

    Best wishes,

As an update this post here should hopefully give a kick in the right direction. Just found that with the search in the forums but I am sure there are more than that.

    Hope it helps.

No problem. I can see how this kind of editing is sometimes more beneficial to clients as they can very easily get confused when confronted with the whole of the admin panel.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Hmmm, seems I still have a problem with this. Since editing my content outside of the EE control panel causes problems with relationships (image gallery, forums etc) it seems the only way to add editable content would be to make the editable stuff a separate weblog which did not rely on relationships… problem is this will cause problems with search results and all that.

Any suggestions on what to do here?

Hmm, this is getting more and more strange!

If I edit my weblog using a SAEF, not only does it remove the forum link but it also turns “allow comments” from enabled to disabled whenever I update my entry.

Any ideas why on earth this is happening?
