Here I am with all this desire but I can’t seem to get into the hole.  I am tittering around the hole. it’s like I am thinking and dreaming but nothing is being produced off the production line?

I think it’s better when you work in pairs then working alone cause it is really hard to work alone it requires a lot of self discipline. What do you prefer working alone or with some one?

Ok so this is what I want to code I want to loop through all the files and folders in Directory then make html links then when you click the link you will call a Ajax event handler function and then that file’s contents will then be loaded into a text area form field and then you can edit that file and then click on save and then that files contents will then be updated to reflect the changes you just made with a preview link to see the file

really simple but when ever I sit down to code that paragraph I wind up either watching tv or doing something else like what I am doing now

It’s easy to procrastinate when you don’t have anyone to keep accountable to and/or you are in a familiar/non-work-oriented environment. My suggestion? Get out of the house, set a series of smaller goals and then knock them off one by one.

I sometimes find that if I can’t get in the mood to do the business logic, I come at the problem from the opposite end; and do a quick photoshop mockup of what I want it to look like. Then I build the views and the business logic just kind of falls into place.

As for your actual question, I prefer working with a small team, but I’m more than comfortable working on my own.

I like to work in a team, than all the great idea come together. If I work by myself I can overlook things, just like all normal humas do. but in a team a member will most likely point it out for you. Although it does depend on the project, small projects are ok to work alone, but big ones I get help. because I don’t like to overlook anything that much. Posting to this forum I consider it as a team, because there are more people to work with and share knowledge. Instead of by myself I could implement a technology, and come to find out It done it worng because I had no one to point out a better method. It really depends though.

Ideally, a common work area with 2 or more developers, plus everyone with a cube/office/some private space.  Programming really lends itself to benefit from collaboration.  When you’re on a roll, you’re insanely productive by yourself, but are writing so fast, you’ll make little errors that would only slow you down if you attended to them - that’s where others help.  When you’re stuck, you’re insanely unproductive, and another pair of eyes can really help unstick you.

Pair programming increases the beer truck number of a project - how many folk need to get hit by a beer truck to shut a project down.  When you have intellectual redundancy, the project benefits - and so do the programmers.  You don’t always have to be on call, and if you’re not indespensible to a particular project, you’re available to be promoted or get onto another cool project.

Direct collaboration on programming projects means exposure to the tools, techniques and overall experience of other programmers.  Occasionally annoying, but incredibly valuable in making you better.

Hehehe… at least somebody got it.  I was starting to feel like quite the thread killer there for a bit.

I like to work and code alone, cause as long as the CI community is there. NO WORRIES! 😊

I’ve worked alone for the past 4 years and I’m tired of it (no team). I don’t mind coding a project by my self, but I would be nice to have someone to collaborate with. Normally I have to come up with the entire layout/design script/web page, I’ve learned a lot but having another person to talk to and get an opinion from is always nice.

I don’t think there is a single person in my school (high school) that knows PHP besides me, or at least to the level I work at , I consider my self fairly well rounded with PHP. Getting something to do what I want isn’t a problem its how I want to go about it and making it effective/reasonable.

Some of my friends are starting to learn Java, so its a start. They might pick up some PHP. All I can say is I cant wait for the year to end, graduating.

High school was a long time ago for me, but I certainly recall having no peers.  Sucked more than I realized at the time because it slowed down learning.  Try finding other user groups in your area.  Google, meetup, whatever will get you some knowledge and experience sharing.
