I’m having trouble setting up trackbacks in my Publish page for a post.

    First look at the post:
    http://www.homerobots.com/blog/will-your-home-robots-always-be-truthful/

There are links to three blogs in the second paragraph.  I’ve entered the trackback URL’s for all three posts into the Trackbacks section in my Publish page.  However, trackbacks show up on none of the three blogs.  One of them, Herself’s Artificial Intelligence, I am certain shows trackbacks since I see one on there already.

I’ve tried placing both the post URL and the trackback URL of the referenced blog posts in the trackbacks page—neither is creating the trackbacks on these blogs’ comments sections.

How does this work in EE?

    Does no one do trackbacks?

    Trackbacks are spam heaven.

That being said, you want to use them, so let’s get this working, shall we?  Let’s begin with what version and build of EE you’re on?

    Version 1.6.2.

Spam doesn’t affect me when I am issuing a trackback from my blog post referencing an external article.

    Is that your trackback here:

No, that’s the comment I entered when I realized that the trackback was not working.

Ok, what build are you on? You can find that under the version in the footer of your control panel.

What I would recommend trying, as well, is trackbacking on your own site.  That way you have full control and can test at your leisure.  Choose a test entry and set up trackbacks to give you the URL and appear on the site, and see if a trackback goes through.

I don’t believe my blog shows trackbacks yet—I have my developer working on putting the code in the template to show them.

Ok, definitely the first step is to try getting trackbacks working on your own site, so you can test that way.  Also, I’d recommend updating to the latest build. =)

Well, I have to apologize.  I just found a blog that has a post set up just for testing trackbacks (http://www.mysocialnetwork.net/blog08/555/2008/01/blogging-101-exercise-post-and.html) and I tried one and it worked.

I think that the problem must be that the blog owners I’ve sent trackbacks to are configured show trackbacks only upon moderator approval.

Thanks for you help. It forced me to try and find a trackback testing blog post.

Glad you were able to work out that at least your end is working. =)
