Who would you choose if you leave Dreamhost?

I know there are a ton of threads regarding webhosts, but ... as is the nature of their business, things change very quickly.
    Here today, gone tomorrow.

That is what happened to my EE installation on Dreamhost.
It went from crawling-slow, to unbelievably-crawling-slow.

I have NO extensions nor plugins running. No embedded templates.
Recently upgraded from 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 Build: 20080225.

It’s a broken layout right now, still working on things.
But here is the URL: http://organizedfellow.com/

Not just my site runs slow, but the Admin CP as well.

Is it something on their end? Should I upgrade to a faster/better package? Or seek a host elsewhere?

I dont know anything about Dreamhost other than the fact that I had issues there too back in the days.
    My suggestion: EngineHosting.com - outstanding!

I’ve used both EngineHosting and LivingDot with great success. However, if I had my druthers, I’d probably always choose EngineHosting.

I presume you have contacted DH support? I have been hosted there for quite a while and I am happy with the service they provide.

Your site loaded quickly for me.

Right now I’m using EngineHosting as well.  No problems yet.

The site took about 20 seconds to load for me.
Another vote for Engine here, I currently have about 8 clients hosted with them and I’m very pleased with the servers and the tech support.

I use this free service by http://www.siteuptime.com/
Here are some of my logs that get emailed to me, if you are curious!
    http://organizedfellow.com/gmail-siteuptime.jpg

Tonight, it took over a minute.
I’ll sending them an email to let them know I would like to cancel and move. Get my money back :(

They’ve offered to switch me to a lesser used server, but I’d rather just move over to EngineHosting 😊
    *YAY*ME*

I’m sure many of you know, that some special configurations are needed to run EE on DH. I didn’t keep track of the changes made, I just tried every tip/suggestion I came across ... so I was wondering, would the kind folks at EngineHosting assist me in the move over here?!

I didn’t have to do anything on my account to get EE up and running, so I am not sure what configurations you are referring to.

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific.

I need my site to run without the index.php in the URL.
To get that done, it was a run-around.

I would most likely be better of just doing a few install, and restore my database.
I still would like to move to EngineHosting.

In a few days if they don’t improve on things.

I guess it depends on what method you choose. I just added a .htaccess file in my root directory and I was good to go…no run-around required.

Well, I bit the bullet, and closed my account with Dreamhost.
Opened a new account with EngineHosting. I’ve heard such good things about them.

I’m still getting my little site up. Having troubles with the database connecting. But waiting for a tech email reply.
    😊

Congrats on the move to EngineHosting. I made the jump from A Small Orange and it’s been great! Some small bumps in the road getting everything moved over, but it’s been smooth sailing after the first week or so.

The first thing I’ve noticed is their control panel, very minimal in comparison to DreamHost - which I really LIKE!

As an added bonus - I’ve purchased my first iMac (20” 2.0GHz with 4Gigs of Kingston RAM).

I have been so excited; at work, everyone knows! hahaha
I’ve been bragging about my plans for many years, I finally spoiled myself - now if I can just learn as many productive keyboard shortcuts for all my new apps.
    😊

EngineHosting is much more expensive than most hosts.  I am currently using Media Temple and for $20 a month you get much more (and (mt) is more expensive than most hosts).

(mt) has 100GB of storage as compared to 1.25GB EngineHosting S-2. 1 TB of transfer, as compared to 25GB with EngineHosting. And more, like the ability to host up to 100 sites on the same server.

Don’t get me wrong, because of the ease of use with EE factor, I would love to switch.  But at least tempt me with the pricing.

Am I missing something?  I am very surprised that nobody ever mentions the high-price of EngineHosting.
