I just posted a request for multiple field support over at the MarsEdit forum. Here’s the thread. If anybody would like to second that emotion over there, please do.

Update: There’s already a request for it at this previous thread.

Adam I might be wrong but I thought that when you are using the MetaWeblog API that there is actually a limitation as to how many fields can be used. I don’t think it is an ExpressionEngine limitation though rather a limitation of the API.

I definitely stand to be corrected on this though as I swear I read this somewhere but now I can’t find the link and it is 1:30 here in the morning so I really should get to bed and couldn’t find the API documentation on the net either. I think I have probably maxed out my Google searches allowance for the day!! 😊

I think I should give in.

If I am wrong though then I would add my voice to that request so please let me be wrong?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Over at the post on the Red Sweater forum Daniel Jalkut replied remarkably quickly and said this:

As for custom fields, this is something that came up recently with the WordPress folks. I suggest that for the sake of consistency, EE strongly consider exposing the custom fields in the same way that WordPress is. Basically as you may know, WordPress has been expanding the “Movable Type” API recently by adding a bunch of exciting new features for doing things such as adding categories, editing pages, etc. It would be great to keep as many of the “MovableType-API” based systems using the same API, because that makes the job easier for clients like MarsEdit.

It’s not quite clear to me what the status is right now, but it looks like if EE exposes the custom field the same way WordPress is doing, whatever that is, then over at MarsEdit they’re looking to expand the app to allow for custom fields.
