Has anyone played with any kind of chat/IM program and integrated it with their ee install?

I found an AJAX chat program where it looks like I can put a shoutbox on one of my “user” pages.  The only thing I don’t like, is it seems like it will be a pain to hook it up with my user db, and I honestly don’t have the time to figure it out.

I do realize that there are solutions with google chat, but I want to have it be all contained on the site and not get google involved.  =)

Many thanks to any pointers anyone can give in advance,

    -greg

    Hi Greg

I just stumbled on your post. I am wondering about your very same question. Were you able to make any progress on this?

    bump on that one.

I’m looking of a good AJAX chat solution… Actually EE implementation is not too critical in my case, just a clean script that would be easy to integrate, I don’t need users to be authenticated via EE user DB.

    Thanks!

    I have a solution for you: https://blueimp.net/ajax/

I have tried it out, it’s a very well designed and reasonably well documented ajax chat, entirely free, entirely customazible and open source. I have looked far and wide for something like this, I couldn’t find anything better. Don’t let you fool by the kiddy color schemes, the architecture is really quite good. Give it a try and let me know what you think,

    Best,
    Franco

thanks, after a little bit of research, I also narrowed it down to that one and a couple paying solutions… It’ll probably be a couple of months before I have the site live and I’ll try to remember and come back here to document which solution I went for at the end.

    Thanks again! 😊

Which paying solutions did you find? I bought Prochatrooms, but I discovered that to use it properly you need admin rights to your server, which if you are relying on a hosting solution you don’t have…

I found a mention of this one on the EE forum, apparently the dev helps with EE integration… pretty nice for the price. There’s also a light free version for you to check out first…

Yeah, I looked at that one, but the developer wouldn’t help me integrate it into EE…

I use http://www.123flashchat.com which is a great piece of software (used it for around 4 years). I currently have it integrated with my PHPBB based site and am in the process of converting to EE. Though no current integration exists between EE and 123flashchat I’m pretty confident that it’s going to be possible…

I’m using BlaB! as a chat solution on an iPhone MMORPG game community site.

The application is easily integrated with EE, including the integration or member profiles. As a result, our chat rooms are easily restricted to members only. Further, individual members are easily set up as moderators within the rooms.

The developer, Konstantin, has provided very thorough answers to my barrage of questions, including detailed code examples on how to modify the app to extend it.

There are three versions available (lite, standard, and enterprise) depending on your needs.
