I think trackbacks are a great idea; unfortunately, as everyone here has agreed, the protocol has been horribly exploited by the spamholes of the interwebs. That said, I think the answer comes in the implementation. We’re working on a kind of adaptation of trackbacks that hopefully provides value at both ends of the relationship, while putting in a small barrier to mitigate the spam. Barring any other issues, this use of trackbacks will (hopefully) be a key part of our blogger outreach efforts.
Once we get this all worked out, I’ll be happy to post about it here, assuming anyone’s interested. We’re certainly not reinventing the wheel here or anything, but maybe it will help others figure something out. Sometimes it’s just about looking at it from a slightly askew perspective!
