Hi, I have a client that wants a new site built and they need a system that can support a a variety of tasks. I’ve been looking around the core of EE and it seems great but being a designer I try and stay away from the tech stuff unless I really need to.

So before I go and tell the client that EE is the way could someone please answer a couple of quick questions.

    1. Is it possible for admins to upload e-learning and other materials easily?

    2. Is there a comprhensive sitemap that is automatically updated with any new site developments?

3.Facility to set up automatic email groups

4.Interactive calendar to which notes and docs can be attached (eg. meetings, agendas etc.)
If these can be answered positively then I can give my client the go ahead.

    Thanks in advance, Neil.

The calendar sounds like it may be the one tricky bit.  EE does have a calendar tag- it will display a small or large calendar and link to entries based on the publish date.  Those entries are just plain weblog entries- so you can attach docs to them, etc.  However, it is somewhat limited- no recurring events and such.

What I’d suggest is testing it out and seeing if it fits for what they need.  It should work fine on Core if you’re already using that.  There are a number of trial options available, so take advantage of one of them.

    As for the rest:
    1.  You can upload images, pdfs, video- etc.  That shouldn’t pose a problem- though I’m fuzzy on your exact needs.  But yes, uploading a variety of files and associating them with weblog entries is standard.

    2.  There is no automatic sitemap, mostly because an EE site can be setup in a wide variety of ways.  However, it’s not hard to create one using weblog tags etc.  I wouldn’t be overly concerned here- it’s very doable.

    3.  EE can have multiple mailing lists if that will do the trick.  Sending mail to them is a manual process- but it’s easy to write up an email and send it off to an entire mailing list with the click of a button.  Is that what you’re looking for there?

Thanks Robin for the answers. Sorry about the spelling and fuzziness of the questions. Neil
