    Hello everyone

I’ve currenlty got a website that is running EE 1.4.2.

The client didn’t want to extend the 1 yesar free upgrade and now the clients have actually changed.  They’ve been nought out by another company and the new company has just contacted us asking us for a quote for training about content.

I’ve given them a quote for that and also included a quote for upgrading to the newest EE available.

They’ve agreed to the training but are questioning why they need to upgrade.

One reason is that we’ve been experiencing problems with the exp_security_hashes table not cleaning itslef out, which will happen in the new version, but the more eveidence of they I need to the better.

Can anyone point me to a link telling me the benefits of upgrading from 1.4.2 to 1.5.2 or have any other reasons that I can give?

    Thanks in advance

I’d simply say that in the fast-evolving world of web technology it’s simply a no-brainer to always work with the latest version of the software that’s powering your website.
    Why take chances?
Some modules and plugins won’t even work with older versions of EE.

Because they really should be upgrading to 1.6.1 not 1.5.2?  1.4.2 is at a guess at least 2 years old now? (look at the version history to check for sure).  If you are running a business you likely would want to know the software you are running is a) the lastest version and b) a version you can get official support for if you have questions, problems, etc.  Seems a little silly to question $40 to make sure you are covered support wise at least.

What kind of company is this that doesn’t want to spend $40 to get an update license?  That’s really cheap.

1.6.2, actually - and here are Several Hundred Reasons to upgrade.

Plus, if they need technical support - the first thing we’re going to do? Tell them to upgrade.  =)

Embed variables alone are worth quite a bit in my book.

I’m curious - if your license upgrade period has lapsed and then say a year later you want to upgrade, it’s not $40, is it?  I always assumed that you’d have to buy a whole new license.

It is still $40 to renew the commercial license.  Even if you let it lapse for a year. =)

    Uh, yeah, well that’s a no-brainer then 😊

Yeah, no self respecting actual “business” would not continue to improve their web presence, and at a low prie like that….well, suffice it to say that after you discuss it with them for 15 minutes you have all wasted more time and money than if you upgraded!

Another good reason is that subscribing continually means they are helping to pay for improvement of the product - improvements which they are very likely to use (security, features, etc.).

Ask them what reason there is to NOT upgrade for $40.

    Thanks everyone for your answers.

I learnt something today, didn’t know it was only $40 to upgrade, not that it being $100 is a big difference in the real world.

They don’t exist in the real world though, and alot of my clients tend not to.

    😊

I have plenty of information now.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Everyone

I’ve got the clients to agree to upgrading, fantastic news.

    Here’s my dilemna now 😊

The person who bought the Personal License some years ago now has disappeared.  The last piece of information I have is the email receipt from EE for the purchase of the License.

I’ve tried using the username it states in that receipt to login or request a new password but I get username does not exist in database error.

I’ve got the License number, the order number and the original username used to purchase, can anyone think of any way I can get access to upgrade the account now?

FYI, the person did not leave under a dark cloud and is definatley not using the product or going to be using the product in the future, they were a finance representative.

bingomaster, you need to have the owner email sales to transfer the license to you, or to the client, so that you can renew access in order to receive the updates. =)

    Hi Lisa,

Does the update alter the database schema?  If so, can you provide us information on what they are before we take a plunge.  I’ve been developing on 1.6.1.

    Thanks
