I am having the exact problem described here:

    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/61786/

I had custom fields with the same name in two different sites, which caused the first site to stop displaying the field data.

    I am running 1.6.1, Build: 20071114

    Has this been resolved?

hi, Jenny - I see this in the Change Log:

Fixed a bug where if showing entries from multiple sites and each site had the same custom field short names, only one site’s custom fields were shown.

It should have been in the 1.6 roll-out.  You are a few builds behind, though; can you try updating to the latest build and see if that helps?

    Thanks, Lisa.

I’ll update to the latest build tonight.

I was using the Default Field Group on site 2. I deleted that group and created a new field group instead, which doesn’t seem to have the same conflict with site 1.

Maybe there is something haywire with the creation of the Default Field Group under MSM, which the previous bug fix(es) didn’t address?

I’m okay now. I’m just glad I caught this after adding only a couple of entries!

Jenny, the default field group is just a field group put there during installation - it is not needed.  It’s just there to give people a working site right off the bat. =)

I understand that. Just wanted to add the information in case it might be helpful to someone else in my position.

Thank you, Jenny!  Definitely good to know for someone new to the MSM. =)
